Hm.
I'm just into the middle ages researching towards banking/economics.

Now all of a sudden I get Christiaan Huygens as a scientific leader.
Shall I rush Leo's Workshop, increase scientific output (and get a golden age btw) or shall I finish Leo's Workshop and wait till I got Chivalry/Economics and then rush Smith's Trading Company?

The science boost does not work. It will look like it increased research, but it will take the same amount of time. This bug is well known. Only use the SGL to rush a wonder.

Edit:
Just an FYI, if you have an SGL you cannot create an MGL. You can still get another SGL though. What that means is, if you will be at war you may want to use the SGL right away. If no war, then you can hold it, if you want to wait for some other wonder.

Do you know how many shields he contributes to the wonders?
I'm building Leo's right now (600 shields, halfway there), but in about 20 turns I will have Economics and want to build Smiths Trading. (600 shields) and I can research Chivalry in 5 turns and get the Knights Templar (300 shields)

The SGL will complete the wonder, providing as many shields as are needed.

Yeah, it is not like Civ4, where the leader give some shields (hammers) and it may or may not be enough. SGL will finish any build that it is allow to be used on, even if it is 1000 shields Internet.

ok, the city that built Leo's I changed that to building the Knight's Templar, and another city built Leo's in one turn.

Was about to recommend that :D

I usually always have a wonder going in my capital, so when I get a SGL I switch that wonder to a secondary core city and rush a brand new wonder in the capital. Unless of course I really want to rush my current wonder like the pyramids or sun tzu's
