You can't blame me for waiting till Scooby Doo came on HBO to watch it; it had every sign of potentially being a very bad movie.

What a pleasant surprise when I did finally watch it. THe casting was superb (especially unexpectedly attractive Velma), and the writing which combined the feel of an actual Scooby Doo episode with not-so-subtle parody of the series (best shown in karate Daphne and in the way they handled Scrappy Doo) was top notch.

I give it 7 stars out of 10.

I saw Scooby Doo while on an airline to my folks-folks place last December. I liked it, and I liked it so much that the guy passing out peanuts 'kindly' asked me to not be so loud.:D Yeah, it was a great movie, the casting was superb. Whoever did Scooby's voice was either really weird, or extremely gifted. I thought that Velma was a little to 'hot', for her geekish role. But, hey, the more sexy women in a movie the happier I am! (not meant to be sexist, and you women know you enjoy movies with sexy men!:))

I gave it:

8*/10*

and

:goodjob: :goodjob:

Whatchoo been smokin', Sultan?

I was fortunate enough to sleep through most of it on a flight. Nevertheless, I did get most of the story, and it just wasn't the same as before, especially not the ending.

So, you didn't like it I gather? Watch it a second time around, trust me Cromagnon, it starts to grow on you. :D

@Cromagnon- Just eating Scooby snacks.
Watch it on your big screen tv next time, you'll like it.

Didn't somebody once try to make Scooby Snacks into a cereal or something like that? I seem to remember a lot of 'Scooby Snack' commercials on the WB in the late 90's, but maybe I'm just dilliusioned.;)

My wife has this theory that seems to be a very valid indicator of the basic quality of any movie or TV show and then an indicator of whether you should be watching the show or not.

When the the show you are watching keeps being interrupyed by commercials for centrum silver, the craftmatic adjustable bed, or the rascal scooter then the marketing Gods are sending you a subtle message that you may not be the persons that the show is intended to appeal to.

Another strong indicator set is when you see commercirals for monster truck rallies, get your degree at home in just 3 weeks, or "Call 1-900-AMBULANCECHASER".

The frequency of the commercial breaks can also be a strong indicator of the program content. When the length and timing of the commercial breaks is longer than the program segments and occuring more often than every 5 minutes it may correlate with the attention span or mean bladder capacity or beer emptt/refill timing rate of the targeted viewer.

The Velma and Shaggy portrayals in the movie were flashes of brilliance in an otherwise commercially targeted media vehicle that may have been produced by Freddie Prinze Jr.'s uncle or someone trying to get the snuggle on with Buffy (which seemed to have backfired).

My prediction is that the Scoopy Doo Movie has already been scheduled to run on commercial television with a planned commercial filler line up of:
Progressive.com Insurance
Advertisements for MTV's sequel to Jackass the Movie (called "More Jackasses in less Movie")
The season teasers for that new reality show "Twin Bachelorettes"
The Time-Life series comic books and RAP videos collection on DVD series
Dell computer interns videos Dude
and my personal favorites:
dial down the center with CarrotTop

The commercial frequency will be about 8 to 12 minutes apart until you get past the first "Paging, Mr. Doo" sight and sound gag but then will be decreased progressively to between three and four minutes as you get through the farting one-up-manship and the "Who's your best buddy scenes".

The actual station that the movie will air on has not been determined yet, but they are in negotiations with several specialty series including "Dinner and a Movie", "Revolting Dinner and a Movie", "Dinner and a Revolting Movie", "Joe Bob's Drive In Movie GarbonzoGanza 2003" and/or "Comedy Central's timne filler spot between "Southpark" and "Insomniac".

I have no idea why people like Scooby Doo. It was stupid when it came out and the recent wave of Scooby nostalgia is even more stupid. Some shows are funny because they're campy, but how many times can they foil old man Gunderson who's trying to scare people away from the old abandoned amusement park because he found pirate gold there?

@ Napoleon, Scooby Doo was not meant so much to be scary as it was to be funny. The reason Scooby Doo was so popular was because it was a first: a funny-horror-mystery series! Now, how can anyone not like that?:D

I know it's not meant to be scary, but I fail to see how it can be considered even remotely funny. Oh look, Scooby and Shaggy are cowards! But somehow the save the day, for the one- thousanth time! Ha ha ha! What fun! Oh wow, Fred is a thinly-veiled homosexual! Daphne is an empty-headed slut! Ha ha! Velma is a bull-dyke! Shaggy smokes pot! Oh stop you're killing me!

You guys are killing me with hilarity!!! Cracker's best post ever IMO, and Napolean gave me a belly laugh just now.

Look, what's funny about the Scooby Movie is that it made fun of the Scooby show. I was expecting garbage of the "Flintstones movie" or "Casper" level, but was surprised by the humor in the very scenes (Melvin Du, fart attack) that Cracker was jibing at.

Different strokes for different folks. It was much better than "8 Mile" which my brother and his wife raved about.

EDIT: Napolean, if that link isn't satire, I'm terrified of these baptists... they need to be dealt with in a hurry!!!

Well, at least you noticed her. Everybody I know that watched the movie were gaping at Sarah Michelle Geller the whole time. ;)

By the way, has anyone heard the theory that the cast of Scooby Doo represents the Five College System in the Berkshires (Western Mass)?

Fred is the Amherst boy: clean cut, by the book.
Daphne is from Mount Holyoke: Erm, I won't tell you what the nickname for them is. :mischief:
Velma is the Smith geek/lesbian.
Shaggy is the Hampshire hippy/druggie.
Which leaves Scooby as the UMass Amherst cool dude/unwitting hero.

I didn't like the ending of the Scooby Doo movie and I couldn't believe there wasn't a scene with them running in and out of doors changing their sequence all the time. Apart from that it was good.

Agreed. They had a scene which was perfectly suited for this, and didn't do it.

You can buy Scooby shaped animal crackers called Scooby Snacks. Strangely enough, the only place I've ever seen them is Bed, Bath & Beyond.

Great movie, my wife and i watched it a week ago on HBO as well sultan. The ending with scrappy was the best, besides all the veiled drug references.
