OK, I know we are all newbies here, but I'm more of a newbie than most, having gotten the game for Christmas. Anyway, I played my first few games as the Americans, winning (only because Chieftain is so easy). I am going for Regeant, since Regeant is the levellest (do correct me if I am wrong, but I seem to recall seeing this is where the computer and you both take the same amount of time to do things, and the computer gets no bonus units). The Scout America gets, and low cost of scouts, sure seemed to be a crutch I relied on at the very beginning of the game, since exploring was easy. Alright, well I also ventured away from the Americans, and from an Expansionist civ in general, and went with the Germans.
My question is: where are the scouts? Are they only available for Expansionist civs?
I know some units are civ-specific, but I don't see any mention of this in the manual. Do I need to do some research for scouts, or are they just not available? If research will give me scouts, what do I research? (The civilopedia also has no info for this.)
