Screen issue

Hi,

my screen is behaving strange lately.

1/ it stops now and then by itself (makes the smae noise as if witched on/off)

2/ it is often black but sometimes you can see the screen for a few seconds.

3/ it is (as right now which is a pain) sometimes really weird : it uses 1/2 of the screen with a concentrated line in the middle and a curve on the sides. The result being only the center of left and right side show "kind" of ok.

4/ sometimes it just stops altogether.

It has happened for a fe hours one day. I let it "rest" and things were kind of fine for a while but now it starts again.

BTW sorry for the spelling but you can imagine how it is to type like that...

sounds like a poor connection.

Is it a laptop or a desktop?
Also, is it an LCD monitor?

It sounds like a CRT going bad. How old is it? You want that new, large LCD screen, don't you?

I suppose there is some question about whether it is the monitor or video card. If you can borrow or steal a second monitor, try that with your machine, and see whether it does the same thing. If so, then you should probably replace the video card. If not, check connections on your own monitor, and then, when you realize that they are and always have been good, buy a new monitor.
