Screen Movement (auto-recentering)

Should firaxis spend time working on the screen re-centering problem?

I am getting ready to upgrade from 1.17f... one of the things I would like to hear comment about is how the game is treating screen movement - i will give an example

If I have 20 bombers in a city, and the are sent to bomb a city to the north or south that is also on the screen, the game will recenter on the target city, then recenter on the homecity, then on the target city and then back again on the homecity FOR EACH bomber.

This doesn't seem to be so bad when the cities are to the east or west - meaning if both cities fit on the screen it will not recenter each of the times mentioned above...

Also, (as an aside) is there a way to redeploy 20 bombers without having to recenter the screen on the target city 20 times? (I have not been able to make stacked movement work with aricraft)

So bottom line have they addressed the numerous extra screen recenters that occur during the game?

Thanks

Stack movement (J) works fine with aircraft. In fact, it works too good in v1.17. You could bomb with 19 of the bombers, use J to rebase the 20th to a new city, and ALL bombers would rebase. That´s bomb+rebase the same turn.

This was apparently fixed in v1.21 (haven´t actually tested it).

Thanks hurricane - it didn't occur to me to use J with aircraft since the rebase command would interfer(I figured that you couldn't combine them- I will try it out in my next game).

Thanks for the votes...

I will attempt to clarify for those that have voted No - I don't know what your talking about...

I often move my bombers to the closest safe city near the front(btw-tell that one to sac command).

When the 20 bombers come up in the turn sequence:

center the screen so that the two cities will be on the edges of the screen.

Press the B and the grid comes up.

Select to bomb the target city

The screen will then recenter on the target to show the bombing animation

The screen will then recenter on the home city

The screen will then recenter on the target city to show if the bombing run was successful

Then the screen will recenter on the base city for the next bomber

note-this has been more noticable for me for North/south bombing runs- I will check again in the game and edit this post later - since I am doing this from memory.

If the game would not recenter if both squares are on the screen there would be no problem for me.

If the game didn't recenter for aircraft units there wouldn't be a problem for moving stacks either(but I guess that was fixed with the J command)

BTW-One of these days I will try to make a B-52 unit in the advanced flight tech section - ICBM range huge cost and maybe double the current bomber attack)-

I don't see a way around this, really. You select the target, then the boming animation is displayed. If animations are off, I suppose it still shows the success/fail message at the target source, and the effects of success where possible. Then, the next unit is activated and centred on. The game has no way of knowing what you want to do with this unit, so it centres on it.

So what is your proposed solution?
