Screen Shots (MAC)

There's nowhere I can see that you can disable this option, so I can only guess you are on an old version of Preview.

Here's a screenshot of my Preview dialog with the popup menu popped up, together with the About window so you can compare versions.

Personally, I use Grab to take my screenshots, then use Preview to convert them to JPEGs for posting.
Are JPEGs better than GIFs for posting? I want be as efficient as I can in the Mayania thread. I also do a lot of image posting in the Battlefield Asia thread, where I'm helping SOG and Shirou with research.

Now how do I get it on the forum? I was able to copy it into Appleworks where the save as option allowed me to change it into a JPEG.

In the "post reply" screen, under the text box, you should find a box with some buttons to upload files to ImageShack (one to choose the file, one to upload it). After they're uploaded, a new window will pop up with some HTML you can copy and paste into your post to cause the image to appear - either as a thumbnail or full-size. There are two options - labelled 1 and 2. I don't recall off the top of my head which is which, but I believe the ones starting with [img]STUFF are correct for CFC, not the ones like [url][img=STUFF.

I can't do that. Would photo bucket work?

And now it's trying to save the picture as a Quick Time. How do I make it a JPEG, when my only JPEG option is JPEG [QT]

No clue what that is. And why can't you do it?

What app are you using currently? Appleworks still? Preview is really a better option - what version of it and OSX are you running? JPEG [QT] may still work, regardless. Look at the extension (may have to turn off hiding them) - if it's .jpg, you should be fine.

I can't because my computer won't let me. Theres a content blocker on it.

With Preview I cannot change the picture type.

version 10.3.9 I have an iMac G5

JPEG [QT] doesn't work.

I must say I'm very surprised that your version of Preview doesn't do it. Do you run Software Update to check for new versions?

You could download GraphicConverter. It's $30 shareware, but you can try it out for free it as long as you are prepared to wait for it to load up each time you use it. That'll do it for sure.

Hit Software Update in the Apple menu. Mine checks every day - set up in System Preferences/Software Update.

What version number do you see for Preview when you select About Preview in its File menu?

Well, if your Preview won't do it, and Appleworks won't either, then you'll need something else.

GraphicConverter is a shareware option. Alternatively, if you are prepared to install and use the Xwindows software from your Panther disks you could download The Gimp and use that - it's a free Open Source "Photoshop", but it's a Unix application.

I have OS 10.3.9. In that version of Preview you can convert image types using Export in the File menu.

Really????! What happens when it is exported? Is JPEG ok or does it HAVE to be Jpg?

The Export function will automatically add a .jpg extension. You can change it later to whatever you like. Your Mac does not care what the name is. It will still recognize it as a JPEG. However, you should probably stick with .jpg or .jpeg if you're posting on the web (not sure if that is necessary).

And note the naming thing is only true for files you create with your Mac applications. If you download a JPEG from the web you better stick with the .jpg or .jpeg name.

I'm having trouble adding the attachment. I have it uploaded and when I go to the drop down bar to insert it, it won't let me click it and put it in my post.

Is there anyway of just getting the number of the attachment (The one you see when you attach it) so I can just copy and paste that between

When you're on the Post Reply screen, look down. There is a box labelled "Upload your images to ImageShack." In that, click "choose file" and navigate to your .jpg file. The filename will appear next to the buttons. Then click "host it!" and wait a bit.

A new window will come up with several blocks of HTML you can copy. They are labelled such things as "hotlink for forums" and "thumbnail for forums." Copy the HTML block for what you want, and paste it into your post where you want the image to appear.

OK, some more details.

Here is the place where you can select and upload images.

I did that just by copying and pasting in the "Hotlink for forums (1)" stuff on this page that came up when I clicked on "host it!" Here is a picture of that page.

That I did by copying and pasting the "Thumbnail for forums (1)" HTML.

I can't use image shack. Content blocker. I have photo bucket which works also.
