screen troubles with mods

when i try to load a mod like Civ++
or better BTS AI. it loads but

it doesnt show the mini map or controls for units or anything jus the bare map with the units. cant find a control to bring that stuff up. maybe i jus dont know it?

note that i have bug mod installed so its always loaded. would this cause issues or am i not using the mods right or???
