Screenshot of the Day #3: Global Warming

Tell me about it.. one of my worlds was heading towards that way the other day. I couldn't bear seeing how bad it got, so I just quit. I knew by that stage that irrespective of the outcome of the game, it would be a hollow victory living in that literal hell on earth.

I really wish we had some kind of AC style ability to terraform. Maybe in the Civ3 Expansion "Into the Future," ear-marked for Q3 2003 (I wish).

I'd spend 6,000+ years baking Earth to a crisp whilst destroying all those that just couldn't accept my Civ was right all along. :D

Then a further few thousand years or so trying to woo the planet's conciousness into liking me - by terraforming it's scorched alternate Earth surface to lush, primeval tranquility.

But that's just me.

I've noticed that too. But, It could be like waste (and sand) spilling into the ocean to form some land... Not exactly realistic, though..

I can assure you all that I did not tamper with this game. The desert appeared out of nowhere, with no pollution warning. The funny thing was that it happened again even after I loaded the autosave from the previous turn and moved the ships out on the tile before it turned into desert. Tells me that it was based on the preserved random seed.

Is this a case of the nukethecoastmakesdesert bug?????

I remember reading you COULD make a coastal tile change to desert by nukeing it. So great TF - did you???????

ive played civ uncontroolably since civ 2 came out, and nothing like that has ever happened to me

Oops  sorry....

Phanden????????? A case of nukeity?????

btw, TF, nice work on html-FAQ :goodjob: and I like the DL thread thing!

Nope, spontanious out of nowhere desert that ruined a nice coastal city for making battleships.

scooblerboy, I guess you need to play more then, huh? :)

I think I am even so lucky that I have the 4000 BC save of that game because I played around patch 1.29 coming out which seemed to somehow ignore and not overwrite elder autosaves. Could upload it and show you the original map without that desert spot. The bug might have something to do with that fact, having started the game in another version and converted midway.

Calls for a sav submission by Jackie Niebling. This is very :scan: ! I've had my deal of pollution, this never happened to me.

Would you be able to attack the Battle Ship with a ground unit? And I've never seen the desert with shields. Would they increase the production by one?

Has anyone seen deserts appear not adjacent to the coast, but in the middle of the ocean?

hey one other thing i notice to prove this is the real deal no fake, if you look toward the middle left at the bottom there is well "bonus" desert squares and also "bonus" plains right to the left of the city

phanden, ive played so long that my eyes have exploded because i was looking at the screen so much, so there!

I can barley c it

Well, as I've already said - I had it in a pure v1.29 game. Also, there's no question of him editing it - I had it too!

It was very late at night - otherwise I may have tried to land-attack the ship while it was in the desert. But I was too busy trying to crush some nameless enemy...

And unfortunately there's nothing special about the tile(s) that changed for me - other than the fact that all over the map, other tiles were changing rapidly to desert. Nukes may have been involved at some stage, but ICBMs definitely were - they're my answer to games that don't go anywhere fast!

Nope that ain't no bonus tiles. this picture you get when you check 'show food and shields on map' in your preferences.

So the one shield on the desert is not a bounus but shows how much you get from an unimproved desert.

Here is a 4000 BC save of that game. I had an auto save from 1495 AD too but it was too big (even zipped) to fit below the 250k bye limit. Eridu got placed almost straight east of Babylon, where you will see there is no desert tile in that spot (which happened to be quite a nice spot for a city).

The tank in the pic is a Modern Armor. There are no mods of any kind used in that game.

You have me beat there scooblerboy, my eyes have only ever started going runny with some yellowish goo from too much civ.
