Sea ressources out of range

Hi, did a quick search but could not find any posts on this topic (though I think I remember seeing it mentioned before). I am starting a new game as Lanun and am a bit annoyed that the sea ressources typically are located out of range (more than two tiles) of the coast. Is this a problem related to the Kuriotates sprawling trait and the new Slum wonder and does anyone know a workaround (to lower the frequency of inaccessible sea ressources)?

Cheers,
Sandro

more than 2 tiles is not "out of range" for culture, only not usable directly by the city.

Since coastal tiles will only happen within 2 squares of land, and the resources are set to spawn in coastal tiles, it only happens when 2 landmasses are within 4 (or maybe 5) tiles of each other, or you have a large harbor/cove/lake in a single landmass.

Hence, it is rare, but can happen on almost any mapscript with large bodies of water. Not an issue connected to FfH really. (but hey, I could be wrong, is there land on the other side of it?)

They did indeed start spawning farther out when the sprawling trait was added way back. I'm not sure if that's carried over to BtS though - I don't recall seeing any more than 2 tiles from any land tile since the switch.

Actually I think there is one resource type that spawns only in ocean -- whales, right? But maybe I am confused I am not even sure if they appear in FfH or just vanilla Civ?

And I think the original poster was probably referring to fish, clams, and pearls anyway.

Whales (and oil in vanilla) do show up in ocean. But yeah, I suspect he was talking about the coastal ones :)

Would it be possible to script that lanun citys use sea resources like they are within reach ?

Fish, clams, and crabs can appear in ocean normally, in range of being worked by cities. And coast only appears (in normal scripts) next to land. I have noticed the problem too, but never in normal civ, only FFH.

I've seen pearls a long way out to sea, but that's it really.

I always use my first two turns to explore for a better spot. That is what the awesome sight range is for and three turns don't mean anything on emperor.

So just pick a nicer spot.

I often have resources 2 tiles diagonal from the nearest land, or accessible only via an island 1 tile from the capital (it was not visible when the capital was created). It happens plenty in bts as well. If possible, moving to a non-forest hill can help avoid this (in ffh, with 4move super-sentry settlers).

I wish you could build a special shrine on these resources. They mock you all game: "you didn't get all the resources you were supposed to :P". Sometimes I try to think of them as preserves, but that doesn't really work. I'm pretty much bitter all game :)

I always go around in worldbuilder in a new game, dropping fish all over the place on coasts and inland lakes.. I like big coastal cities and it seems more realistic.

I tend to play Big and Small maps for the most part and I see sea resources 3 tiles out pretty frequently. Though there usually is land on the other side, it's also 3 tiles from that. A lot of times, it's next to or very near ice. I wonder if ice is being counted as land, and therefore when the resources are generated, it thinks it's placing the resource next to land.
