What am I put on this earth for. I am being plauged by this philisophical question: If am not merely a being of flesh and blood, than what am I? How, and to a lesser extent, why do I exist?

There's no fixed answer to that question, and I for one think that is quite nice. If there is no answer to be found for the reason to our existence, we are free to think up our own answer, and create our own goals. That's the beauty of life, in my opinion.
Try reading up on some existentialists philosophers. It won't give you the answers, but it'll make you feel better about not knowing them.
