Oh I don't at all recommend it, just stating how. WHy bother when one could do it so easily on their computer?

What I don't quite get is how you played something backwards in the old days ?

I used to have casette tapes. So, I'd remove the the tape from the casette and turn it over. Put it back into the casette and when i press play, it's all backwords. If i'm lucky, then i might hear something that might sound 'satanic'.
But I feel all these 'messages' were actually put in by the recording companies themselves, to get impressionable teenagers (like how I was) to buy the records.

I did an expository speach on this last year for my forensics class. I turned around used the Led, Britney and Queen examples, and fliped them around myself. Interstingly now, I can tell when there is an actual reverse message in a song, because it will sound like something is being played backwards. So far i have spoted a few in various Five Iron Frenzy songs, the only one I was able to flip, said "sandwitches make the best of friends". There is one in Franz Ferdinand's Michael, and one in Prince's Darling nicki. there are a few other supposed ones, too.

They way we did it was using a language arts recorder. They had these cassette tape recorders that would play both track one and track two going the same way. The idea was that the French teacher (or any language for that matter) would record a phrase into the first track, they you would record your work on the second track. If you took this machine and placed a copy of say the Beatles "Revolution #9" You could hear what was being said backwards.

the other way was to use a reel to reel tape deck. You had a great deal of control over the tape with one of those.

ELO had a very cool one that we used to have a lot of fun with. "Fire on High" It said "The music is reversible, but time is not Turn Back! Turn Back! Turn Back!"

Just reverse the wires on the motor.
That would work well for Compact Cassettes?

I think he means he'd open up the cassette casing and flip the reels to that the tape was turned upside down, so when the casing was closed again and the tape inserted for side A, what you'd actually get is side B backwards.

Pink Floyd's The Wall, disc 2 has a hidden message, but it can be heard when playing it forwards, not reverse.

Now as for what song, listen yourself :)

Burn it!

I found a site with a flash of Stairway to heaven playing backwards, and it was creepy how much it sounded like praise to the devil.
