Sell your first luxury resource...

Made an account just to suggest this.
-------------------------------------
I haven't tried it yet, but what if you sold your resource to an AI, than destroyed the improved tile. Could you rebuild the tile and sell it again or would the trade be off?

If this worked I could see it being very useful when AI trades you lump sums.
Hah!

Either ways this will be a hard to stop exploit :

1) If your trade agreement stays, you get the money for free.
2) If your trade agreement cancels, it will be a good way to cancel a trade, any trade you don't want. Just include a spare resource in the original agreement and destroy the resource tile when you want to stop. (Maybe even peace treaties?)

In all cases if you get gold for the resource, then spend the gold, i don't see how they can cancel the trade agreement since they can't take the money back.

The only way to fix this would be to make a resource tile improvement invulnerable to self sabotage / only make it destroyable by other civs.

I've done this before, myself. Seems like an okay idea, better if you have two resources to trade (even if they aren't the same). It also works better if you have at least 250 gold of your own in the first place, so you can give 500 or more to a city state instead of just 250. It would only be practical if the alliance with the city state lasts longer than the trade agreement, if the other civ doesn't benifit too much from the deal, and if the standard bonuses from the city state are useful to your goals, as well.

There would, of course be the disadvantage of not being able to work the tile and wasting the worker time. If it's not already in place, I would think some system of "refund" should be there for canceling any kind of trade early, and perhaps even a diplomatic hit for being unreliable.

This is a game, of course they can take the money back, even if they have to give you "negative money" to do so... the question is whether or not they take their money back.

the -5 gold a turn is only if you annex it... obviously puppet it.
while it doesn't give happiness to have it as a puppet, it gives you bonus to research, money, without the time effort and money to micro manage its approval rating to alliance point.

puppets start buildign stupid crap like barracks and walls which cuts into your economy.

true, it does... but they are still profitable... not AS profitable as they could have been... but there is no downside to them and you don't have to worry about them... Just make sure you conquer them QUICKLY. (well, they do increase unhappiness from population... but thats manageable too)

the only REALLY bad thing they do is eat up your coal and uranium with factories and nuclear plants... the solution is to use those up yourself (simply set cities to build those as soon as they are made available to prevent your puppets from using those up)
