Serious non-sarcastic question about simple UI fix

I have a serious nonsarcastic development question. I know there are a million problems with the UI but one of them is that there is not simple single-line listing of cities and their yields, with the ability to sort them by how much X (science, prod) they produce.

I believe it is so common sense and easy to make this fix. Why in the 4 years of development does something easy like this not get fixed? I would like to genuinely understand the game development process and why things like this get ignored for years.

Probably, because nobody from their team really played a full game, in all seriousness, start to finish, at least a few times, and making use of all the options they've made available to the players.

Because if they did, they must've realized by now, over those 4 years, what an appalling, horrible and excruciating thing their UI is for a Civ VI player. The lowest mark ever in the franchise. Civ I did much better, incomparably better. Civ III was probably peak UI, downhill from there.

So it is that, or maybe they're practical and will add an adequate UI as soon as the main development is finished and nothing essential changes any more.

I don't know. I am really lost for what to think. But as far as UI goes, I am very, very unhappy. It is really a shame.

The art of a concise and clear UI has been lost over the ages in favor of flashy ones. It's the same reason why so many websites have cool effects but are also impossible to navigate. There's just a disconnect between that and the end user.

Here though, unfortunately, we've just had a poor foundation and have spent years trying to get it better.

It's also not what sells.

I don't know. Certainly, the UI in Civ V was much better but when you compare the UI from VI to some other 4X games (Gal Civ, Stellaris, Endless Space), it's pretty good.
That being said, it could be improved. There's a lot of mouse clicks and movements that could be avoided. The world congress UI is awful - drop down lists.....yuck.

Do yourself a favor, and install the Better Report Screen mod. It has what you're looking for, among many other useful things.

This. I couldn't play a game without it.

I think they haven’t done it because :

1. They feel it’s not a “must have” game breaking need to warrant their attention because they are thinking “hey if a player really wanted to see how much science from each city they can just hover over the science icon on top left and it shows that info” (even though not in descending order)

2. They believe that while they don’t have 100% what you exactly want, they are 90% there.. a player that wants 100% good reports can download mods like the one mentioned above

I bet this is how they justify things

Let alone playing so much that the strain in your mouse fingers tells you clearly, you have to change your style of inputs to the game (i.e. use half the time the other hand on the keyboard with appropriate shortcuts). In Germany the labor unions did a great job in defining the ergonomics of a "healthy" video workstation used heavy duty ... also size of display, how to sit etc. etc. This is probably far away from what most Civ players are using now - but then: they are still young ...
It makes a huge difference whether you just do a routine a few times in order to test its correct function or repeating a routine hundreds of times per game.

:D That less than excessive playing CIV (thousands of hours) leads also to a rather theoretical understanding via hear say instead of genuine intuition - with strange effects to play balance on higher difficulties. Seriously: either this or the new game modes are purposely made as flash in the pan, so that nobody wants to use them lastingly and/or altogether (omg megalomanian).
Eg. why give four extra governor titles? One ok, if it must be, but 4? Just to make sure, players switch SS off again??!!
