Hi, I just bought the DVD Civ 5 brand new from the store, get home, feed the kids, the fish, the dog, make a coffee sit down and pop the disc in.... STEAM arrrgh!!!!

Now for some reason I am locked into a 4GB download I dont want. Why will the game not install from the DVD ??? Why must I now sit here for the next 5 to 6 hours while it downloads a game I have right here on DVD?

Why should I not take the game back on Monday and relieve the store and everyone else involved of my money???

I dont want to wait 5-6 hours to play a game I just paid cash for from a store less then 2 hours ago...

Can I stop STUPID STEAM and install it from the DVD like NOW!!! or is there no other way????

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise it's back to the store and you can keep ya silly game...

Thank you DemonMaster 5 mins 30 seconds I can handle that lol.

Cheers

Oh lol add 15 mins for the 100+MB patch ... Oh Steam, I hate you so... much...

Here is the fix copied from Steam link above.

Win 32bit.

Quote"Using Steam launch options to install retail games from disc

Log in to Steam and click on Library.
Right-click on the game, select Delete local content, and confirm.
Insert the first disc into your computer.
Close Steam (Steam > Exit).
Press Windows Key + R to open Run
In the Run window type:

"C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -install E:

Replace E: with the CD/DVD drive you are installing from if is not correct.
Replace C:\Program Files\Steam if your Steam installation is not in the default location.
Press OK. Steam will launch and ask you to sign in if you do not have your password saved. Your installation should continue from the disc."EndQuote

I had to add " (x86)" to program files to get it to work with my Win 7 64bit.

Thanks again DemonMaster.

ps. I hope it's ok to C&P the fix here.

On the other hand, in a Steam-less situation, it would probably take longer than 15 minutes to go on the internet, find out what the latest patch is, search online where you can download it (and make sure you have the right version) and then download it and when it's finally downloaded manually -click-click-click- install it and wait for it to be installed :)
It's not all bad ;)

Thank you, DemonMaster. I was facing a two week download for some reason!
