First off, sorry for the delay, even though I did warn you ahead of time. New job has been working me hard and my only day off (yesterday) entailed a wedding I was in.
IHT Well, our army is certainly nothing that will strike fear into the hearts of our enemies, but our railnet is basically up and running, so that will make a big difference. Romeo seems to think that a bunch of arty and infantry are needed before we can make any more real progress, and Im inclined to agree with him. So I guess Im basically just trying to get some troops and hold down the fort here, right? Hmm, thats a bit of a wrench in the works, were still approx 25 turns out from arty or infantry. The good news is that shutting off research will garner us 260 gpt for upgrades. The other bad news is wed need about 5K gold to perform upgrades for the numbers Romeo mentioned. Bit of a quandary, Id say. Were at war with both Dutch and Vikes, both of whom have shipd off our coast, though I have no idea if they are full or not. Oh well, lets get to it, shall we?
IT Both enemies land mini stacks on mountains south of our core, taking one of our cavs at the same time. Greece and Sumeria sign peace. Hope they both forget about us for a little while yet.
1280 AD (1) Vikes stack is two zerks, a MDI, and a rifle, while the Dutch land 3 cav, an LB, and a rifle. Unfortunately, I cant really get many troops to Avaris for defense, except for cavs, many of which are beat up. I chuckle to myself at the mess of a game I have created and wonder if its still winnable. At this point warring with anyone (other than the celts) is a handful, never mind a direct neighbor.
IT We lose a musket at Avaris, but win the other four battles, promoting one musket to elite. The Vikes head for our gems.
1285 AD (2) Lose a cav attacking the last Dutch cav. Rifle retreats one cav and falls to a second. Lose another cav on the last three nords.
IT Arabs and Dutch embargo us. And then, off in the distance, I hear a faint sound. It sounds like singing, the voice is certainly feminine, and I get the distinct impression that she doesnt believe in dieting
No cities fall, but we lose a couple skirmishes.
1290 AD (3) I decide that the aptly named Do or Dye is going to be my Alamo. There are already a couple forts in place there, and Im going to try and build one more. If (when) they bust through there, we will have little left to stop them with. I imagine it wont be long before Sumeria joins the pile. Of course, I fully expect some more landing in our rear to further complicate things.

Chuckle again as I try to round up a defense force and realize that we are spread too thin to have anything resembling that. Upgrade and rush a couple units, though my brain tells me both are meaningless gestures. Here we go
..
IT Celts and Dutch embargo us. Lisht and El-Amarna fall. I had basically conceded both though. Although we take some units with us, the Greeks waste little time breaking through my pathetic Maginot Line. They also land a couple units in our rear. Sumeria captures Leiden.
1295 AD (4) A handful of much needed builds complete. Take out the Greek rear party. Amusingly, they leave a single wounded cav guarding their breach, which is quickly retaken. I reinforce the line and see what happens.
IT We manage to win six battles before they break through in two places. This time they reinforce the forts.
1300 AD (5) In the squares that I can check, I can see some 37 infantry, along with a few guerillas running around. Whats the over under here? Theyre all slow movers, and they have a lot of ground to cover, even though there isnt much defense
.. Ill put it at about twenty turns from now. The good news is that well have an army available in just a few turns, the bad is that we may have no one to put in it.
IT true to Alamo style, we end up losing Do or Dye after a very bloody (for us) battle. Amusingly, they actually bombarded us first about eight or ten times. Not so funny is that every shot hit, including taking out our walls with the first one. One of the few battles we did win was when a sword successfully defended against a vet infantry. Go figure.
1305 AD (6) The loss of a lux sends some of the bigger cities into full panic (read: riot) mode. Cant do much but shuffle units here.
IT The Arab-Greek trade embargo ended. Arabs and Greek sign embargo against us.

Bring it on! Athribis, Bubastis, Hill Town fall. Maybe twenty truns was generous, there seems to be more cavs coming in now.
1310 AD (7) For whatever reason, I am still building rails.
IT Bukhara, Fez go the way of the dinosaur. Greeks building the UN then where are the tanks?
1315 AD (8) Kill a Dutch cav they landed. Apparently they still want a piece of the pie.
IT Ask and ye shall receive. The first tank spotted kills a cav in Mansura. Giza goes away.
1320 AD (9) The army completes, and just to be a thorn I go attack Sicyon and kill one of the infantry there. I go retake Giza for S & G.
IT Greeks torch Giza for my impudence. Iron Skillet, Avaris, Tyrantville all join the glorious Greek empire. A musket kills that pesky tank.
1325 AD (10) We learn Electricity. Set research for RP. Thebes riots to mourn the loss of Tyrantville. In a wonderfully amusing development, the army captures and burns Sicyon :-D. That also gets us a few more slaves. Yay! Since I cant keep the workers, they all get disbanded. We have lost our iron and can rail no more, so I fort all our workers.
Well, theres my ten. If anyone wants to pick up the game for any reason, here it is. Otherwise I will play it out sometime in the next few days. I want to thank you all for the great job you did, Im sorry I wasnt as active as I probably should have been. I think that my last minute decision to go to DG was the downfall here. We did a great job of overcoming all of Bedes little tricks, but all the backtracking to recapture cities and such proved to be the undoing, I think.
