If there was a great start, no need to move the settler and the point is moot.

I start 3-6 tiles away from Mt. Roraima, you're telling me I should not move my settler in that direction?

Oh, THAT'S what it is. I lost a settler but no notification, he/she/it/they (did I miss one?) simply disappeared, and I was mightily vexed.

The lack of notification is indeed annoying.

Yea it sucks, beyond like making sure they never end a turn on the actual river tile.

No real solution but you don't need any case to save scum though-- just do it.

This. Really hasn't been an issue for me. At least not with settlers. Don't leave them on a flood plain or next to a volcano.

Now builders I do lose every now and then. It's part of the game, suck it up.
