When Settling 2nd/3rd City; how do you prioritize monopoly v grabbing best spots that other Civs will also aim for, on tradition opening. E.g. defendable hill over river next to other luxuries or natural wonder. I can grab and defend them, but it will delay my monopoly a long time since I'll need the fourth/fifth expansion before getting the monopoly.

I prefer spots first, because I'll get cities for monopoly later anyway.

Unless it's a flat yield monopoly, always secure territory first. Settling exactly 7 tiles away from your neighbour in a defensive position should stop most forward settles.

defense and carving off territory from enemy settlers is much more important than a fast monopoly to me.
