Sgotm 01 - C F R

I also think we started courts too early. With more WCs we could have overrun them by now. But now I think we better make peace and finish them off later with maces.

As I understand, we promote all of our WC for Combat and Shock?

I can mistake, but I think, that some WC must be promote fo Flanking.

It give us more chance to save WC by withdrawing.
And it has only 2 levels and we promote that WC for combat after it with level 4 (10 experience points).

No, I promoted 2 of them for combat and shock (for axeman in russian cap), others' second promotion was combat2. Sorry for bad final result. I thought that since this game is for result I had an order to some risk (especially since we have not Pyramids, when some other commands have it almost sure). 2 WCs is enough for 1 archer and I thought if axeman will take even 4 I'll can capture Moscow. But 3 of them reduce his power less than by 1 point. :( I've startet courthouses too early also in order to this risk. So, I'm sorry once more.

No problem here, we're all learning (save the Great Ones here :)). And judging by cultural levels, noone has Pyramids so far.

By the way, I think catas will be better than maces, cause we get them faster (8 tuens vs 13) and also we get colliseum for happiness.

Sorry for delay, as usually no free time...
After checking the situation I decided to make peace and boost our science a little bit. I think we lost our chance for WC rush and they aren't good choice for next war. I think we will fight by Maces and Cats later but not right now.
I got Polytheism and Hunting for peace and eveb Open Borders for our Second water scout. Next turn I met Gandhi - he is our constant peace partner. Both Gandhi and Cyrrus are Buddist... I sold Iron Working to India for Sailing + Archery and got +4 to relation. Of course I set Open Borders with them.

I not end Drama but start Literature for GL. All cities exept SPb started Forges. Sorry, but Moscow culture cut us from second Horse... but I already sold them to India for Pigs... I think we could break this deal if we will need Horses. I also got Fish from Persia for Cow.

After Literature I went for Currency and got it on my last turn 130BC. I bought Calendar form India and accumulate some money from other civs. India got Metalls from Great Engineer it looks like...

Now we can start way to Military techs like Machinery.
I tried to push Russian culture by Artist in SPb, but too slow, so I switched to Slavery back.

I can't write more info now, may be tomorrow...

Regular respect from me.

We can trade Monotheism and thus Organized religion for further production boost - even from Catherine! We can also gain Monarchy from Cyrus for Hereditary rule, but would we really use so much units?
Locked war with HC does not create explicit war weariness when it is peace with others, but I still think it will make it hard to fight long campaigns.
I still think catas would be good - almost twice as cheap as maces, useful for most of the game, researched faster and allow colliseum also.
We shpuld take Russian lands as soon as possible to gain their gems (+1 happy and +1 happy from forge), cuttable forests and cottageable lands. Our economy is sufficient for the purpose. But we need more workers which we can produce while low on happiness.

Yes, and judging by Universal Suffrage, Gandhi has Pyramids. Which is bad cause we won't get them - unless we make Cyrus kill him and provide him ith techs and units.

Dynamic, what was your plan for the next city you're building settler for? Ornage to work grass cottages for Thebes?

Consul is up and then Witan preparing but lets wait for a bit and discuss the plans. There is no rush since we are ahead of many teams in number of turns played.

Also, please remember, 10 turns for each player, not more (unless there is something important left to do which the following player might have trouble doing)!

The most important questions:

1) How to deal with Russia and when?
2) Where is Inca?
3) How to deal with Gandhi and Cyrus? Let them battle each other? let them live in peace with each other? If Cyrus wins, it is good for us. If Cyrus will be losing it is bad for us.
4) It also seems we might need Astronomy after all. I'm still puzzled as to what we have behind these mountains to the east of Thebes/Memphis. There can be some ocean there but not that much, may be a few tiles which we can cross with galley if we build up a culture in the city near these mountains.

1. My sentiments are - now.10 catas and couple of axes + 1 spear for protection + our otherwise useless WCs for finishing the wounded will run through Russia like diarrhea through a buffalo. Then we can have peace for tech/money, leaving some arsewipe town, rinse and repeat. And the tech is 7 turns away from us (6 if we set science to 100%, even less if we take coming GL int accout).
2.
3. I would choose Battle, as we're not running for diplomatic, and even then we would have different religions affecting our relations.Give almost maximum support to Cyrus and bribe him into war regularly. But here I have a question to more experienced players - would Cyrus win fast at this age of war? Cause when we start eating Cyrus we need total destruction of Gandhi to get his cities and lands. If it takes too long it puts bakes on our development.
4. For this we have to wait for Caravel, I think.

Consul is up
Yes, sir :)!
I think, that I can make my turns today evening or tomorrow morning.
Unfortunately I have some problem with link and downloading by night (because my channel so narrow, but many people use it by night) and I can't see save now (I'm working now).
If my co-players post screenshots here my task will be not so difficultly :)

to be continue...

1. I think we have to take own of Russia by macemans.
3. But almost sure, that any war between them is good for us, since we are going to dominate.

1. I agree about fighting with macemen. Maybe fighting with cats will allow us conquer Russia faster, but with macemen we will have more of an army left for the next war. And we'll have them promoted.

2&4. I think the incas should be somewhere close to us. I don't think Gyathar made that locked war just to scare us :) It is not that important now to look for more galley crossings though because for now we have Catherine and Cyrus to kill and after that we should have Astronomy.

3. I think we should take out Cyrus and leave Gandhi alone. It is safer then reliing on Cyrus to kill Gandhi and we don't loose anything IMHO because by the time we kill Cyrus we should be able to get Astronomy, so our army won't be idle.

Thebes, Memphis and Rostov already have Forges. If we will buy Mono we must wait 3 turns before switching to Organaized R, because of previous revolution...
I think we don't need war s fast as possible - we are really not ready for it. Happiness in cities could be resolved by culture slider (Drama - 2 turns) or Temples. Later we will gave +1 from Sugar (may be we need 2 workers for that).
I still think that our 3-d city was placed wrong, but if we did so, we need second eastern city because of Heliopolis can't prepare Cottadges right.
For example, Thebes many turns used Cottadge instead of Village, because in other case Heliopolis couldn't help at all.

My thoughts are same. I shell not fight by my 10 turns!
I'll prepare to war for next players.

Yes, Gandhi is more usefull ally then Cyrus. He will help us in futureand agree to declare war for Cyrus rather then in other way!

And one mor question - where we decide to build new city? Near fish on hills?

Yes, you are right. We either had to place the city SE,SE,E or build the second city earlier. But we also made a mistake in the very beginning, we should have built cottages on tiles that only capital can use and only then on tiles that can be shared. I think that is more important then saving a couple of worker turns on less movement.

Worker movements were planned for SE,SE,E city and, I kept in mind possibility of early mining and tryed to save 1 turn for that. May be it was mistake...:(

We can now do nothing to change the position of Heliopolis except gift it to Russia and then raze it but it is too much harm in any case. So, let's just focus on how to minimize the damage from misplacing the third city and keep on moving.

I think we wanted to build it on the desert hill in the east :)

I still stand for the desert tile south on that hill. ;) (Don't want to sound mean here.)

Overall, it seems that there is the concensus of keeping Gandhi and Cyrus as happy as possible although still minimizing tech trading with them. Then head to Astronomy and carefully micromanage.

Let's everyone take a long look at the save and try to post some pictures with ideas about micromanagement.

You can't locate a city in 2 cells from another.

As for getting promoted army - good point. My warfare lately is expansion to get enough cities and resources for cultural win, so I need no army to eat my pacifism dollars after it. Domination, however, is another story.
