I posted these questions earlier on:

  • What do we want this city to do in the short and long term? 1N of the pigs cows which seems popular with several team members may well be fine for a science city in the short term and an eventual commerce/science city in the longer term. However production will definitely be limited.
  • If we 're thinking about war with Shaka then Yaso will pretty much be our only option for military production if we go for the northern city. Should we be looking build a more production oriented city such a 1N of the pigs in the SW?

NB. I've corrected my error about the pigs in the first question.

Nobody really answered the questions at the time and I think this is the reason the team still hasn't decided whether we should go for the cows or the pigs site. The exact location by either of those sites is another matter.

Erik's point about the next city being a holy city may mean some vote for the cows site although it could be argued that we should delay founding the second city until after CoL so that Yaso is the holy city. If the team want the cows site then that's fine. However I would like to reiterate my point above that only Yaso will be of any real use in building military units if we decide to rush Shaka if we go for the northern city next.

My personal preference for cities is 1 NW of pigs first followed by blue circle by the cows.

Tell you what ...
(and my apologies for causing all the fuss)

I'm feeling in a mood for a gamble. If there's a food resource in the sea just west of The-Hawk's pig site, then I could be swayed away from my cow-preference and towards that. As has been pointed out, the 2 hills can make it productive v quickly. My main dislike for that spot is 11 sea tiles, but if one of them has a resource it could look a whole lot brighter.

My reason for gambling is the large seemingly resource-free gap between the rice in the west and the pigs. Surely we'll find something there?

I would now say (and again apologies for all the hassle) that the settler should run immediately to this spot and hopefully reveal ... !
If there's nothing, then I guess we might rethink, and either plant there anyway, or march north.

Of the cow-spots, I would hate to give up the clams, so I would use either the blue circle or 1w of the circle. I agree the elephants are useful, and would see another more south-central city claiming them.

On the city sites, I'm torn. There are good arguements for both. I think I'm marginally inclined towards the pig for city 2 - better production, no jungle & if there is a seafood resource in the FoW then it's definitely the better site right now.

If we run the settler around like that he might lose orientation and we put the slingshot at risk. We should decide now what we want. I would go with the pigs. We want a lib and 2 scientists asap. I have not crunched the numbers, but my feeling says we will get it sooner at the pigs site. :mischief:

Pigs then?

Yep. I'll plump for Pigs. For better or worse. No running around.

I'm in England, a soft southern g*t living north of Watford Gap :)

There'll be snow up there already, then. Winter comes early in the Northern Tundra.

I vote for pigs (crosses fingers).

That's where I live and no, there is no snow yet, we still have a couple of weeks until Thanksgiving :snowlaugh:

Are you not far from Toronto, then?
I did visit many years ago, with my workplace at the time. I stayed for January and most of February. -20 C mostly!! *&%**in perishing!!

Hi My name is Erik and I want to steal a worker form Shaka - does anyone object?

@Aged-One - about 120K northwest of TO as we call it.

He, he, I knew this would come. :crazyeye:

Don't know whether this will fit with our goals. :mischief:

In single player, there is no way that I would ever be able to bring myself to forsake those clams like that.

The phants are a better tile then the clams. But even if there were no phants, I'd still abandon the clams. Clams only matter if you need food to work all of the good tiles in your BFC (e.g. you have lots of mines). With all the grassline in this particular BFC, you simply don't need the extra food. Granted, the clams would allow us to grow faster, but to me, that's not worth having all those crappy coastal tiles. I'll take slower growth and 4 extra cottages any time. What's the point of growing faster when there are limited useful tiles? Of course, the phants make it all the better.

Needless to say, I don't play Shaka often in HOF . How does he respond to worker steal? Will he make peace, or will he fight us to the death? Normally worker steal is a no-brainer, but that assumes the AI will make peace eventually. I'm somewhat concerned we are not ready for a real war until we hook the copper.

My experience with BTS is limited but even the psychos seem willing to make peace after 20 turns or so, provided you haven't done anything like loose a few troops or cities to them. Of course, if he's already decided to DOW because of our empty capitol it will slow him down a little. I think the reward is worth the risk but that's just me. Between the CS sling and worker stealing we would like one of them medalist teams :trophy::trophy2nd::trophy3rd::ninja:
