SGOTM 08 - Trash Team

Financial Crisis it is....

Maybe we should lower interest rates, nationalize major banks or set up a multi-billion dollar emergency fund that anyone in trouble can call upon.

Oh no :nono: that only works in RL. In Civ it's not that easy ;)

I'm really sorry for letting the team down ... It's just that my erasmus mundus photonics program and other RL activities here in Sweden don't leave much time for civilization. And forcing myself to actively participate any longer in the game would most likely mean bad advice and badly played turnsets. I hope you won't hold a grudge against me...
I've still read the whole discussion and the game seems to be going good, but I won't be playing any turn sets. Sorry for the 'inconvenience'... Have fun!

Glad to see you are still around. :)

And no, we wont hold a grudge. You are welcome to rejoin the 'playing' team whenever RL lightens up.

I've not looked the save already, yet with CoL we can switch to CS and run merchant if eco needs it.

Financial crisis isn't that bad. Might be an idea not to build any more units for now as we're paying 14gpt in unit maintenance. By the time we take and raze a couple more zulu cities that should reduce. Switching Trash House from production to commerce tiles also makes a difference. Adopting CS means abandoning slavery means no whipping granaries or courthouses.
Steady as we go. Get lit for Glib then currency after that.

Hi, I have a trouble with the save (can not open it at home) so I wont be able to open/play it until this is resolved.

3 solutions :
- someone else play my turnset and I'll play a next one
- I can visit a friend tonight, open the save there, put a PPP and visit my friend again tomorow night and play
- wait until the pb is solved (I wrote to AlanH, I hope he'll give me a resolution for that)

my installation seems corrupted :(

last time I played my turnset from my friend computer, thats why I did not have any problems :)

edit : for information my installation has trouble because of the original CD, I tried to reinstall civ a few weeks ago to clean the various mods I had, and immediatly after install I still had troubles like missing strings, synchro errors in multi, ...

Not good. Sounds like you might have to delete all files from your my documents as well or install in a different directory.

its ok, I reinstall civ and was able to open the save :)

so the war is basically win (question of time) ; I propose to continue war to the west and only keep the western city from the zulu empire to block Joao (and raze others cities). We have good amount of cats and enough of CR units regarding the power of shaka, if we dont plan a war against joao I will stop building units.

Tech : we are on the path to litterature for GL, yet marble is not our yet, should I give a try to it anyway ?

Diplo : My opinion is to make joao a good friend and a tech partner. We will have to fight him but now we must recover economy + build as many wonders as we can. There's a wonder 'hole' around rifling, then should be the time to attack joao.

builds : build courthouse/library/granary everywhere, confu missionnaries

some points :
- we still spy shaka, which is useless, I will turn all EP on joao
- I saw lots of cottage that were built but are not worked : this is kind of waste since workers could have done other improvements.
- We did not convert to confu yet, but joao did, I think we should convert now during the war to get the diplo bonus (and switch to OR).

Marble city is a good idea. There's our original multi-fish site near Trash House, there's also a site south of Shaka that catches fur for extra happy (though incurs increased distance maintenance).

If we eliminate Shaka completely then Jo may not trade thinking he's got a monopoly on techs. If we don't eliminate Shaka completly then we'll have our zulu citizens whining about the 'good old days' and wanting to join the motherland.

Being Confused with Jo is surely a good idea.

@pigswill : i'm confident we can bring joao friendly for tech trading (we can share religion, his fav civic is HR, we have OB, peace, we can trade some resources and we can give him some stuff to get the diplo trade bonus)

Your plan looks good. For marble, go with the island city. We'll want the furs but after the economic recovery.

Agreed settler for fishy marble site.

Stop building units, use existing force to finish raze rest of Shaka. We should have enough.

Dont forget to rebuild a few workboats.

yes im playing now... wondering if the GL was to be build in Ulundi or in our capital (Ulundi has a great potential as GP farm : 3 clams + rice + lots of riverside grasslands)

ok done, not a pb finally we did not get litterature yet :o

Two importants events :
- Joao ask for religious conversion, I accepted so that we get an additionnal +1 diplo bonus
- I razed the north city of Shaka, it happened that there was another one on the north extremity of our continent so I razed that one too, and it reveal another shaka city on an another island north. We will have to cross water if we want to eliminate him completly

Good stuff on the war progress!

I did notice a few things:
Difficult to understand what happened exactly without a report.
We should raze nomamba, and city to the south. Then make peace with shaka, unless we want to send an invasion force there.
We have a GG and GS hanging around. Better to put them to good use.
WB in Cottage city could have been sent to build nets.
Ulundi courthouse is 1 turn from completion, yet galley is prioritized for the barb? (why not whip the courthouse and use overflow for galley?) Ulundi would be better to use all food and whip stuff.
Trash Ranch courthouse should be whipped too.
Holy Boot camp should work pigs and hire a few priests.
Cottage city should hire a few scientists.

Not sure about running priests. Lots of shrines have already been built. Taoism has gone.
GS will bulb alphabet atm so worth holding on to him. We've still got high unit costs, guess we didn't have many casualties! GG for MI in HBC (lots of abbreviations there). But overall we're making progress and Shaka is rapidly becoming a nuisance rather than a threat.
Which is best city to build Glib? I assume we'll build city directly on top of marble.
