The state of the world is...messy. :lol:

We are at war with everyone but DeGaulle, and he hates us and will eventually join in. No need to rush things with him, though.

I held off on declaring war for 1 turn, because Gandhi popped a GE and I was hoping he would rush a wonder for us.

No luck, although he may have settled him -- there are two settled GE in Delhi.

Turn 252, Churchill offered us a defensive pact. Uh, sorry Churchill...the time is not right for us. :lol:

Declared on Gandhi, Mao, Rosie...Churchill in because of his DP with Gandhi. Took the following cities the first turn of the war:

Mao - Hastings and New York
Gandhi - Varanasi, Delhi, Vijayanagara, Lahore, Prayaga, Madras, Pataliputra

Was not able to take Bombay despite a double-nuke -- Gandhi has been building bomb shelters.

But he does not have them in all cities -- try a single nuke, double nuke if it looks like that will clear all defenders, triple nuke if needed. :hammer:

Expensive for us, but taking cities is the key to reducing the AIs power quickly. We do not have a large enough conventional army to fight a standard war.

We captured Sistine and Statue of Liberty in Delhi -- extra specialists on the home continent, and extra culture from specialists as well. New York provided the Hindu shrine (+16 gpt once it comes out of revolt) and Notre Dame to help the happiness situation on the other continent a bit.

Happiness is a HUGE problem. Massive WW, just causing huge trouble. We should revolt to Police State immediately, to get the additional -50% (added to -25% from Rushmore). Big cities without jails are building them for another -25% to get things back under control. St Pete has huge WW even with jail and Rushmore, we have 11 (!!!) unhappy people there. The culture slider will not be enough, we need PS right away.

We got a GG in Guangzhuo (why there? no idea), and I used him for a military academy in that city. It is our top hammer producer without HE, IW, or a mil academy so it seemed like the best place.

Our cash flow is also a concern. I built cash steady for about 10 turns before the war, and I am glad I did. We are now about -100 per turn, with about 2100 in the treasury.

We must conserve all cash for expenses -- do not run research! We can't afford it, and while Industrialism would be nice I think we can win without it.

IBT Gandhi counter-attacked and retook Varanasi.

He had more units outside his cities than I had hoped, and with railroads he could send multiple units against it. Of course, the city immediately regains all its culture. :cry:

We need to check the discussion in the maintenance thread -- do we need to nuke the city again, or was the first time enough? It must be retaken, so we can control our home continent fully and move all the fighting to the islands and the other continent.

Gandhi's other counter-attack at Madras failed.

Second turn of war we captured Bombay for the Pentagon.

I also took Atlanta and eliminated Mao -- our WW situation should improve partially next turn as the WW against China disappears, along with yearning for the homeland. But we still need Police State immediately.

I also nuked Washington, but was not quite able to take it. Needed one more unit.

But it will fall next turn.

I have left the turn part-way done. There are lots of units still to move, ships, nukes, etc. Also the revolt to PS. I did not want to tie the next player's hands, plus I just ran out of time to finish the turn. Sorry for the mess. :lol:

We have 3 tac nukes -- one in St Pete (need to decide where to move this), one in New York (move to Washington once we capture it, use on Boston), and one in Hastings (can't reach any English cities, but as insurance against a big army appearing). Also we have 1 ICBM in Moscow -- save for emergencies.

We have lots of subs and destroyers around, plus galleons and transports. Most of them are empty as this point, so we need lots more tac nukes to reload our subs for taking the island cities. Make sure to keep a destroyer to cover subs and transports -- we don't want to lose a loaded ship! :eek:

Gandhi and Churchill have destroyers of their own, and Rosie will finish Combustion next turn and upgrade his ships (assuming he has oil somewhere, haven't checked).

Our captured Indian cities need stronger garrisons, at least until Varanasi is retaken and all of Gandhi's troops kicked off our continent. He only has maybe 3-5 units left on our continent, but some cities are only weakly defended.

I only had so many troops to capture all those cities.

Gandhi has a caravel near Novgorod -- no ships in position to kill it, but I covered all the seafood. It should be easy prey next turn. Just don't forget it is there and needs to die.

We have several ships NW of Yaro -- they sank a couple English frigates this turn. There are a couple more English ships a few tiles north, threatening York. Smash them next turn, then move to cover Churchill's cities so he can not surprise us with a naval attack on our back lines.

Lots of troops gathering around Hastings to attack Churchill's remaining continental cities. Also lots of troops around New York/Washington, including some on ships.

Make use of our naval power -- I was getting lots of use by bombarding city defenses before our attackers went in. And the sub nuke tactic worked perfectly!

Destroyer for protection, sub with nukes, galleon or transport with units -- you can move in, nuke, and capture a city easily. Use multiple nukes to clear all defenders if necessary, but save them wherever the enemy is weak enough to take the city by force. But the AI builds a lot of units, so I expect multiple nukes will be needed for most cities. Just keep building and whipping tac nukes wherever you can get them, and rebase to newly captured cities so they can be loaded onto subs for the next target.

Sorry for rambling on, but I think we are now in position to win this game pretty quickly. Gandhi's power has been broken, and no one else is all that big a threat. Lots of ships will be sent at us, I am sure, so watch out for them and try to keep our fleet in twos and threes so we can smash them and not leave a winner to be promoted. Even if we lose a ship here and there, we can afford to trade ships much more than they can at this point.

I am flying out for Thanksgiving in about 10 hours -- good luck, guys! I will be back around December 1st or 2nd, and hopefully we can wrap everything up by the December 7th deadline. Play as many turns as you have time/motivation for -- things really ought to go quickly now. Nuke, nuke, and nuke again if you have to clear defenders. Speed is everything!

OK, made a quick check of the rules thread, found this post from Gyathaar:

We nuked Varanasi once, so we do not need to nuke it again. Just need to take it away from Gandhi a second time.

Seems nicely done haphazard1. :goodjob:

Have to wait for about 10 hours before I can look at the save. With our lack of ground troops it was always going to be a little bit of a problem (only a lttle though, nukes are great levellers :lol:

) with counter-attacks though. But what we can see from our EP points Churchill doesn't have many troops, Roo is outdated, DG is well behind and 2 nukes will kill his main stack. We should be able to draft from the Chinese cities next turn which will help with our attacks on Churchill/DG.

Just have to see how quick we can finish from here.

I take it JH is up if he has recovered from his exam (which I hope went well).

Wow. What a turnset Hap. Sounds insane. But we're in position to mop up. Probably grinding from here on out.

Sleepless, can you take the next turnset? I can follow on Wednesday/Thursday with one. Early week is typically bad as I have a class Tuesday night to prepare for and I have a paper to finish writing. If you go, then I, then we repeat with you after Turkey day, we should be nearly done.

Yep sorry about that JH delayed a little bit but just finished my turnset.

A quick overview, I revolted to police state which was 2 turns of anarchy. I think we will be safe now from unhappiness problems so feel free to whip/draft away.

We do need some more naval units as I lost a few, destroyers and transports mainly although a couple of subs would be quite handy.

Some problems on our main land taking back Varanasi and lost Lahore for a while again. My fault I should have upgraded the rifle to an inf but hoped it would be safe. Obviously not.

So because of the Indian culture it has taken me sometime to get those cities back. Should be safe now though.

I have taken 3 more of Churchills cities but Liverpool we can't nuke because of French culture. Note DG is back in WHEEOH.

What I think we should do with DG is get a couple of subs with 2 nukes each and declare, nuke Uzbek and Phoenician on the same turn, using 2 nukes on each city will wipe out most of his strength and we have a lot of troops just waiting to attack France once we have taken Liverpool.

There is another sub near Oxford (I think)and some transports with a few troops on ready to attack once it has been nuked. Remember we can use destroyers to reduce coastal defences which helps. Just don't nuke them. :lol:

Yep he is all gone from our lands, apart from DG we need to just island hop now hence the need for more navy..

Just thinking back to the save regarding DG. Just double nuking Phoenician will cripple him if he still has his SOD there. Once that has gone and with inf/nukes against rifles he should gp down pretty easily.

Then nuke and take liverpool,

And nuke and take Oxford.

JH basically everyone bar DG is spent. We shouldn't have any real problems cleaning up and with our tech superiority on DG he shouldn't be any problem especially if we get his SOD done. It might be an idea to check if anyone has oil, if not transports/subs will be enough for naval units.

Might not even be worth double nuking Uzbek, no harm in having the nukes ready though.

The world is very polluted.

And very much ours. I nuked and took every single AI city but I left one.

The last remaining English city is nuked and they have no defenders.

We haven't taken down the barb land yet, i thought we might want to do that before we end the game by taking down churchill. There are plenty of nukes and ICBMs and I have labeled all the cities that were nuked, so you know that they were nuked.

i think just two barb cities remain to be nuked...or three.

Anyways sleepless, it should be a really easy finish. I played a pretty long turnset but were close to done
