SGOTM 11 - Wotan

@New Team members.

This time Wotan hasn't posted his lengthy introduction, so I thought I give an short overview about the procedure which we have established in SGOTM10.

After the discussion about has ebbed down and all points have been accounted for, the "Up" Player is posting a short overview stating plans and priorities. After other people had some time to chip in eventual corrections he plays his turnset until he reaches a decision point or the end of his 10 turns.

If an open question comes up, (for instance when you meet Egypt and we can discuss the tech trading) he stops and posts a status, again giving everybody some time to reply with there opinions. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT, please try to do this, whenever in doubt about how a specific situation should be handled, or if you feel that it hasn't been covered by our discussions. Especially in the beginning even small issues set the course ofn the game and should be discussed by all.

After the turnset post an Turnlog, as much flavour/pictures as you like and your overview of the challenges lying ahead of the next turnset to start of the discussions. Screenshots of the mayor strategical regions are very helpful.

Upload the save tto the submissions page but don't paste a link here. It can then be downloaded via the results page, which is a safer, as this is the official save of our game. There have been problems in the past with wrong versions pasted in threads and stuff like that, which we can easily avoid this way.

And now enough of rules, lets hopefully enjoy all playing this and give the AIs the buttkicking they are longing for.

@schmiddi,

I think Wotan, meant by sealing it we can keep the AIs out of our share of land. And I doubt we give ROP so soon in the game, lets keep that option for the later rapes, to reach DOM limit.

Do you still have problems installing the package? If yes which version of CIV do you have German or english?

@ Team
Do we want to palace jump after we have setlled the plains? or do we wait for an even better location in some AI core?

I am aware of that, in fact I never really liked ROP.

what package are you talking about? I have the german version.

I'd vote for early jump. If neccesary (sp?), we might jump again later.

The SGOTM Package. It is necessary to for seeing the mediterranean bonus ressources used (like the sheep). Since the install package provided by AlanH assumes english Civ, I had to adapt it a bit by hand bevor I got it to work correctly.

But If you can open our save and it shos the sheep, everything is working fine.

Thats the other way round.

I think its easier do germanize the patch. I have done that in my game and it works fine

SGOTM_Patch_German

Hope I didn't miss anything since its a while ago when i did it.

Nope it looks up in the file pediaicons.txt what the name of the Graphics for the unit #ANIMNAME_PRTO_Warrior is.
And thats art/units/krieger when you have a german installation. So you just merge the differences between these two pediaicons.txt and it all works out fine.

Research: ...keep running at the highest percentage possible.

Scouting: Find the Egyptians. Continue mapping the southern peninsula.
That saves me some typing. :)

I'm doubtful meeting Egypt will take more than 3 turns, so Zimbabwe's worker and Zimbabwe will keep doing what's written, and the other worker will hope nobody (ie guys in white) decides to join him on his journey.

Edit: More analysis (PS pause will be taken for trading before these issues arise). Yellow would be the first site to settle. The third shield would be corrupted (for some reason CivAssist says 17% corruption, and I'm getting about 21%), so probably the SE worker could go to the adjacent BG and road, then mine. Warrior->worker there.
I never remember when barbs tend to show up. Should the warrior accompany the settler? The scout's a bit far away to distract anybody unfortunately.
I think faster settling would be more advantageous than 1gpt savings, so Zimbabwe's worker could road SE, etc.

Edit2: Since the mined BG would just add a corrupted shield, the SE worker could road towards Zimbabwe (second settler wouldn't be assisted by the road), Zimbabwe's worker could road the gems, yellow city's worker could mine BG. Enough random thoughts, time for dinner.

Your plan looks good. OTOH not much to plan for at this stage of the game. More a question of squeezing the most out of every unit action and production turn. Good luck!

We should be able to move unmolested for a few more turns I guess? Can't remember when barbs appear under the settings used for this game but would guess around 2500BC???

EDIT: Kulko, thanks for posting some ground rules for us!

3000(0): looks good

2950(1): Arabia has 2 workers for sale; too bad we can't buy any
Egyptian border even closer than we knew
a chop, and the southern penisula is revealed

2900(2): enter Egyptian land, no contact yet

2850(3): Egypt allied with Arabia, Russia, tech situation in screenshot
Egypt will give CB, 10g for WC or alphabet; CB, masonry or BW, 10g for alphabet and WC (also masonry and BW for alphabet, WC, 1gpt, 14g)
Russia (has no gold) will give BW, masonry, or CB for alphabet
India will give CB for pottery, 4g
the wheel cannot be bought
masonry is worth more than BW

I'd say get masonry from Russia; get CB and BW (I assume they'll still give 10g) from Egypt; get 58g from India for pottery
If mysticism is available, I'm doubtful a good trade could be arranged

I've outlined the formerly black tiles in the screenshot below.

Here's my worker plan now (by the way, founding red after yellow looks good, or the rest of Wotan's last dotmap, for that matter):
Zimbabwe worker would finish his road where he is, road the tile SE of Zimbabwe (this will speed founding of red city by one turn), then road the gems. The other worker would move W and road the BG (yellow city's first worker can mine it), then road the tiles N of yellow city and N-NW of yellow city connecting to Zimbabwe's SE road. It looks like CivAssist doesn't take rank corruption into account for planned cities or something like that; red city would have 1 of 2 shields corrupt, so the worker should mine its BG.

I'm not sure whether there's anything worth investigating SW of Zimbabwe, or whether the scout should head directly to the isthmus (the former excursion would take about 7 turns if there's nothing worth seeing there).

I like your trade plan, masonry being the most expensive first from Russia then take what egypt offers. And finally India.

The worker actions sound good too.

But I would like the southern scout the head SW. There might be something appealing in that direction? Luxury, huts, new land bridge or?

Agreed on the worker and trade.

Agree with Wotan on the scout. We have the main contacts so lets find the rest.

How much would a worker approx. cost?
probably just over 100 gold. The case at hand, with two workers available indicates Arabs have just finished building a Settler and is about to move off from Mecca with it. It is a perfect opportunity to disrupt an AI's expansion to buy one of them and leave them with a "20 shield" Worker. We did such a trade in SGOTM10 BTW.

Unforutnately we don't have the gold. And I wouldn't assume to go gpt for this or The wheel is worth it.

i am late each time :-)
Don't have anything to add to the discussion at this point.
agree with the previous comments on the action plan.

well I assume he will, once evening in the american TZ rolls around.
