SGOTM 16 - Fifth Element

Orleans should not build a worker at a low population - it has tiles to grow onto, and will be much more powerful when it does. We need warriors instead.

it is building a warrior, i just made a mistake writing it down. good catch

I see nothing contraversial in the next three turns. I'm happy enough, but you should probably wait for at least one other person to see it.

If the warrior sees a barbarian archer, you might want to detour a bit - it's more important to keep the warrior alive than expose a couple of extra tiles of jungle.

Set research to 0% for one turn now, so that we'll have enough gold to run to Writing at 100% research after that.

Go play three turn. put research to 0% for one turn.

My turn 60 oracle was simple enough, build warriors until (writing in paris)/(size 4 in orleans)
Chop and whip library. Run 2 scientist.

T35:
-Tax to 100% (+12c)
T36:
-found a lion, he attacked me (+75%def) I won. Decided to regenerate in place, didnt want to burn promotions.
-science to 100% (-2c @ 20 storen so enough to finish writing in 9 turns)
T37:
-Orleans expanded
T38:
-FP farm done

upcoming events:
1 turn: worker build in paris
2 turns: Orleans warrior build
2 turns: Orleans growth to size 2
7 turns: writing researched

Im not sure what to do with the two workers right now. should I pre-chop forrest and if so, are any prechoped allready? Or should I build a mine north of paris to help that oracle? Or should I build a farm for Orleans (wheat or fp?)? What was your plan for the turn60 Oracle Folket?

PPP so far:
-heal warrior1
-do some carefull fogbusting with warrior2
-chose warriors to be build in both citys and keep them on max food

The next improvement from the existing worker is surely a wheat farm.
Folket, please advise on chop/whatever order for the new worker.

Well played so far. It should be 2 or possibly 3 turns to heal, so promoting to save one of those shouldn't be worth it.

A request for future screenshots: having gridlines and resource bubbles on makes it a little easier to look at.

heal: was 5, still worth waiting

screenshots: will activate both

Well played Pollux! I agree that healing is our best bet, promotions can wait.

If I understand Folket correctly, we have some leeway with our workers. Do we start laying cottages, or roading to a potential 3rd city?

Not yet. We still need to finish the library quickly, which means a mine/chop on the plains forest hill (but make sure it's activated in Paris first).

Pollux, thanks for the reminder for the thread, but in those weeks my only CFC activity is in this thread :) And not much.

Sincerely i was expecting a PPP from you, but with the path already set for building and research i would have been more a question about being sure you you hae all clear.

It seems to be so, for what i can read and see.

I think you can play 2 or 4 more turns beyond the ones planned and the same can do next player, to have the Oracle (or the failure) within the next set.

BTW, a volunteer for next one? We need to go faster, too much time spent until now.

You waste two months on 30 turns, then give control to the least experienced player and then you dare to say 'play faster'? Are you kiding me?

I told you I will play a few turns every day and that will be 10 times faster then we did so far!

I'll take the one after this - I can plan and play it in a couple of days, with a minimum of fuss. I wanted to wait until the Oracle was in, but this'll have to do.

T39: Worker done in Paris, half-done warrior continued
both workers moved to new positions

T40: both warriors done, two new ones started
both workers in place, one started wheatfarm for Orleans one started mine+chop for Paris (7t)

t42: upkeep raised to 3/turn, it will be closer with writing then I thought. Last turn wont be teched at 100% but it will be sufficient we wont lose a turn there.

-saved-

upcoming events:
1turn: Paris -> size 3
3turns: discover writing
3turns: wheatfarm constructed
4turns: mine constructed
4turns: Orleans -> size 3
5 turns: Orleans builds warrior
13 turns Paris builds warrior

One question to be sure: mine/chop will be done in ONE go at the end of the working duration right? I mean, the forrest wont be choped half way? Else I'd need to stop the choping half-way.

ppp:
-after the wheatfarm is completed I will start another one on the floodplains
-when writing is done i switch paris to library
-when the mine is done and the forrest is choped I'll set Paris to production to allow the library to be finished quickly

Hope thats ok

btw did we have the spionage info on brennus all the time?

The Team spent (we can even say wasted, maybe) 2 months, not me alone. And that sentence:

was referred to all the team, for the need we have now to recover the time, not to you as the active player.

BTW, it's passed 1 month, not 2.

Cool down guys, and try to have fun. There is no rush, we are on track now, we have a plan until Oracle. After we get past turn 60, we will have a little stop again to plan for the upcoming 40 turns, but other than that, we can move on pretty fast.

@BSPollux: You did a good job, and I'm sure that you will be the one in French history that will be thought of as "the one whose reign brought our civilization from the dust to the stars" ;)

What do you plan on working with the new citizen in Paris? Which warrior moves are planned? How do we go about the fogbusting plan?

-Fogbusting is called off for now because we are running very low on funds.

-I will use the third citizen on some river plot to get in a little more cash for reasons stated above, until the library is ready to be build. Then I will optimize for food and production.

Btw I still need confirmation on the 'forrest will be choped at the very end of the build-mine timespan instead of the middle' - issue. Thats very important for me to know.

Fogbusting should not be called off, under any circumstances. We won't pay unit costs until we have several warriors anyway. Otherwise we'll get inundated with barbarian Archers, a much greater cost.

The forest will be chopped on the very last turn.

You almost certainly want to work a grassland forest. One commerce isn't worth it.
