SGOTM 17 - Maple Sporks

Well, I'd get out a settler+worker asap, but that's not necessarily settler first.
It might be that Warrior (grow to 2) > Settler (chop+whip) is quicker, or that worker (chop) > settler (double chop) gets the job done faster.

But if in either order we go worker+settler first, jumbo city will get them out sooner than pig city. We'd settle earlier at least a turn and we can improve earlier too (by several turns). Moreover, camped forest jumbo yields more towards settler than pastured pigs (8 vs 7), although with worker it's the other way around (6 vs 7). However, earlier settling and extra commerce from the camp have their worth too.
Long term pig might be a better capital, but I wouldn't really worry abbout that now. Jumbo city would be a splendid early settler pump with IMP. Once we get the chance we should farm those bananas.

Anyway, we should do some testing on settler or worker first. My gut feeling says settler. However, my gut feeling never won us a medal. :mischief:

Well, might as well test pigs first as well. We're not in a hurry yet. :p

I vote to settler phant first.
worker is actually on the right tile to build a camp. I would build it first. then began chopping for settler (not the phant tiles).
This lead to a good mix: normal production is scout or warrior (to be decided) and when chop arrive, we switch to settler then go back to W or S.

If i mentionned warior or scout, that because i wonder if a second scout might be more interesting that the warrior.
We have a world to explore and a scout is better than the warior for that purpose

I'll test that scenario today

update of my test map.

Test game report:
turn 55 camp done, move to 1E to be choped
56 _ scout done, border pop. start warior
58 boudism founded somewhere switch to settler, finish chopping
59 move worker SW
60 warrior done start granary, worker start chopping
62 chop into settler
63 move worker
64 granary 1 tun
65 1 pop gained, switch to settler
66 chop end
67 settler ready, start worker with 32 overflow
68 whip the worker.

Yeah, I was not clear there.

Pigs vs Phants as cap is long term vs short term (but we can move the cap so there's that).
The testing is for whichever city we settle first, to get out a settler and a worker faster. The problem is, I don't think we can properly test PigCity, as we miss quite a lot of tiles of the BFC. So I think it's best to first decide between PigCity and PhantsCity, then settle, giving us even more tiles to take into account, then start testing what to build first.
My vote is for PhantCity

tried with granary instead of scout and warrior.
got it 2 turns after worker.

As said, I'm okay with PhantTown. :)

Nice testing, astre. Hope to join in later... I'd like to know, what if we go straight settler and worker?

Ok, I had a moment... Straight settler+worker leads to something like this:

Civ4ScreenShot1164.jpg

No extra units produced whatsoever and only just started on a granary as compared to astre's first run. However, city 2 settled much earlier and it's about to grow to size 2. Pig just improved. Two forests cut, I think you cut three, astre?

ues my other computer so number count are a bit diferent :o

all tested with 3 choped forest

with camp first:
settler turn 11 worker turn 17
with chop straight:
settler turn 9 worker turn 16

with stop and go strat desrcibed before:
with camp first:
settler turn 17 and worker turn 19 (+ 49 hammer on something else)
with straight chop:
settler T13, worker turn 21 (+52 hammer) <- could have choped a 4th forest to make worker speed up

Tried pig city first, but it's indeed slower, mainly because of the time we need to get units in position from where they are now.

I also tried straight settler-settler and I also kind of like it... It's usefulness will depend on whether we spot a decent 3rd city spot soon enough. Case is that settlers are built nearly as fast in jumbo city as workers are, settler 2 would come only 1 turn after a worker (T20; still with only the 2 chops I did). I'm thinking that probably most ideal is to build settlers in jumbo and workers in pig... We should mine that banana hill after the pig.

I think I'd want an archer before the second settler, though we can decide that later. What turn numbers did you have for the first settler, nocho? Also, what order did you go? Improve first, then chop?

I went camp-chop-chop, although settler might come out earlier with chops first. Don't remember the exact turn number though...

Maybe stating the obvious, but ideally all chops go fully to settlers. Then again, I'd be economical on chops until maths is in.

Jumbo city first also speeds up math with the extra commerce.

TestData:
Camp > Chop > Chop gives settler t11, worker t18. 4h overflow. 2 chops total 214b into math
Chop > Chop > Camp gives settler t9, worker t19. 1h overflow. 2 chops total; 206b into math (a turn later). Of course this gives us 2 additional turns of production in the other city.
Camp > Chop > Chop gives settler t11, next settler t20. 3h overflow. 2 chops total; 232b into math (2t later then first option)
Camp > Chop > Chop > Chop gives settler t11, next settler t17. 7h overflow. 3 chops total; 205b into math (1t before first option)
Camp > Chop > Chop > Chop gives settler t11, worker t17. 18h overflow. 3 chops total; 205b into math (1t before first option)

well we all agree to settle phant city, and camp/settler first seems like the best option, deciding 2 or 3 chop may be decide latter on...

In the mean time, explore data are still requried especialy around pig city.
Why not finish this second turn with settler on queue then explore 4 more turn (until we have a choice to be made (move from the worker).

This seems a logical next 4 turns.

We own 0.64% of the land (exactly 1/100th of what we need for Dom Victory :D )
