SGOTM 18 - BadCiv

so you'll probably end up saving and quitting several times within your set of turns right? if you're doing ~10 turns and you have to stop and talk about it every so often, that's gonna take a while

obviously i'm not talking about reloading from prior saves here geezle pete:sad:

yeah. probably not even gonna be as much as 10 turn sets.... most other teams do like 3-5 turns sets and stop (and rotate) to agonize over micro decisions. we dont have to be as crazy or strict... probably play it by ear, decide on the length of a set based on the current situation and plan..............

i wish the saves were out so we had something to talk about already.

i wonder what victory condition would be the fastest. i think we start with bad relations with every other AI, which might make diplo difficult without tricks (especially with the liberalism thing), and i'm sure everyones got something to make space really hard too. conquest w/o vassals and "require complete kills" might take a very logn time...

we're not supposed to win my conquest. the preferred victory conditions are:
1) diplomacy (w/ at least two other civs voting for us)
2) space race
3) culture

hope this helps :goodjob:

no! :spank: that doesn't help!

ok here's the problem with the VC, at least as far as i see it:

  • dr. evil's lair is an unknown quantity; we probably need some kind of advanced tech (at the very least paratroopers and maybe icbms) to get in. who knows. it could be sealed by mountains or it could be a 1 tile island out in the middle of nowhere with a CG3 mech inf parked on top. so, fast culturals are probably out. also...
  • we probably need to flip the Swinger's Pad via espionage. we're not allowed to artist bomb it, and it'll probably be far enough away that by the time we conquer it, getting it to legendary the slow way, via cathedrals and slider, it will be take forever. however, if we put the slider to espionage, that also rules out putting it to *both* tech and culture. most likely we have to take (or settle) another city 3 tiles away from it and then blast it with 40-50 spies. so, if we have to put espionage towards TSP, and tech towards dr. evil's lair, that means we cant really do a cultural victory via slider. we can use artist bombs on our other 2 cities though... maybe we could have a cottage capital (for the ep) with a bunch of chopped wonders and 2 great artist farms, then bomb the better one near the end...
  • diplomacy victory will be tough i think. we need at least 2 other civs to vote for us, and apparently they're all pissed at us already. who knows how pissed. i'm also guessing that shared civic bonuses won't really be easy either, cause the other 4 will have ed up (and probably conflicting) favourite civics like environmentalism (sitting bull) and charley (vassalage). yuck. shared religion is possible, but that means we have to avoid liberalism, because we'll lose the shared religon bonus the second we get that. um, lets see, we can get +4 for trade with most AIs, +1 for giving up monopoly techs, +1 (or is it 1.5?) for liberating cities, occaisonal +1s for giving in to requests (so we need to decide beforehand who we give in to demands from, cause we cant save in the middle of these), +2 for peace and open borders, +3 - +6 from wars (if we can join in lots of fake wars this will be ideal), +1 for gifted great persons (i think). anyways, the only one of these we can really milk are wars, gifted great people, and liberated cities. hahaha maybe we can declare on someone, bribe in another guy, take like 5-6 cities, bribe our ally to take peace, take peace ourselves, give them back their cities, rinse and repeat. -3 for every war dec but +6-+9 for liberated cities every time. then we can have a great person farm that just gifts whatever garbage the city produces to our ally. sounds kinda goofy but maybe we can win diplo that way. we'd still need to have a big ass population ourselves tho, and need to make sure neither of those 2 will be the other candidate.
  • space is probably impossible. with us having 2 advanced techs, i bet other AIs will have 2 advanced techs each too. docevil almost certainly has fission. i bet someone has rocketry and finishes the apollo program in like 100 AD. anyways everyones gonna be trading this around as soon as the modern era hits, and so unless we have a huge production advantage and repaired diplo at this point then its gonna be tough to pull it off. probably won't be in the running for fast victories anyways.
  • with all these other victories stacked against us, domination or conquest might be a lot more straightforward, so its nothing to rule out just yet...

Maybe we could do a variant of the espionage economy, assuming the Great Wall isn't claimed. Keep the sliders between Espionage and Culture, using Great spies to give enough EP to flip the swinger's pad, and then using remaining EP to steal techs to stay competitive. maybe.

great wall sounds sick. i wonder if we'll have stone nearby. every civ starts with masonry so if we dont we probably can't get it............... :please:

our start location is like 80% desert. isnt that going to significantly slow down any attempt at great wall? esp if everyone else has masonry

oh actually in the screen shot the city isnt settled but the post says all capitals are pre settled "by evil map makers". maybe that just means all the other civs have really good capitals?

there is a plains hill nearby and some flood plains in the other direction so i guess they want us to choose between the two for settling.

we dont necessarily have to settle the first turn i think, cause the "require complete kills" setting also means we dont get killed when fat bastard "sacks" our original capital...

No Tech Brokering is an interesting option and its one i don't have a lot of experience with. it should probably help us with our diplomacy situation though right? we could really pump up the tech sharing bonus if we don't have to worry about a given civ trading our gifts off to everyone else.
