SGOTM 18 - Phoenix Rising

We may yet get to storm GK's capital with HA, since construction is a ways off.

Look at the amout of troops in Ning-hsia... I would expect the Norther Mongolian city to be takeble by mere HA numbers. Keep in mind that we chose a very slow HA attack getting TWO wonders meanwhile. This still is a unit spamming IMM AI. He won't simply roll over to a half-ass attack like this ;)

edit:    Looks like I didn't miss much. Not even a page of discourse since I left. Well, I think we all need a little break after barreling through the first turns with twice the post count of any team and at least twice or thrice the number of turns played.

Yeah no sh*t, man! This is a 180° turnaround from last season where we had such a slim lineup. Impressive to see 115 pages worth of discussion already... We have almost matched the post count from season 17 and we aren't even in the ADs yet :D

Lymond has been offline forum wise since 3rd September.

Ben may come online I guess. Has been daily so far.

Pepe was last online on 5th September. Not sure why he is not posting. Masters?

Izuul was last online 1st September?

Not sure about talla. Packers is online daily.

Could PM Pepe and Izuul to see if they are still playing. We need more activity for sure. I am off out tonight.

What?! I was online? I don't remember the last time being here ^^

lol :)
Ah well, took another time-out today..been maybe the last sunny and warm day.

Pepe it's quiet easily summed up, we had 12 HAs and been doing really well with mixing wonders, trading and rushing..until we saw what's in his Cap.

We think that cos they are all in war with Rags (cept Shaka), he kept his units sitting around (and building a stack already while still expanding, normally does not happen even on Deity).

So backup plan was taking Besh and his Corn city, this would be already ours if i had some better luck with rng (we could have lost only 1-2 in Besh attack) but i lost 3 ~50% fights.
Now we are stuck defending Besh and bringing some more for Corn city.

Normally very well played from us all i would say, cept that mistake of us not testing AI unit behavior while minor Civs are in.

Like Gumbi said, current wait is cos we have 4 not promoted, 1 that can be C2 after healing, and 1 shock HA in Besh. His C2 Keshik could attack next turn, and our Shock HA would defend.

Not worth waiting you think..well losing our currently best HA would hurt, but also hurts if he would have won cos of C1 and our newbies would not.

I think go with your gut. Have to have some luck sooner or later.

Well, My, the Northern cities are "in danger" in GK's eyes already. I doubt he will send a detached force from his stack of defender down to the southern city to protect it, when the vast majority of our units is still near the bigger cities up north.

Okay where is Fippy let's get this game going. After a 5 hour afternoon nap I am ready to roll. :D

Well shock HA will be better against axe/spears but if southern city has archers it may not matter. With pults that is another matter. of course this pends what stack Mongols may send against us.

The break has not been a bad thing. Lymond and other have had busy lives.

If no more opinions on shock HA, i will play how i think tomorrow..
sunday not a good day for me for Civ ;)
Nothing wrong with this break for everyone anyways, at least i do not care.

Id say leave the shock HA in Beshbalik, theres a chance we wont even face a melee unit in the corn city at all.

I have played some turns, and it's really annoying how much the Rng dislikes us :(
Keshik attacked (left Shock HA inside cos that's what most said), and won.
Him and Archer stood on hill, ofc i attack cos i had ~80% against Archer and 100% on Keshik..and lost another to Archer before they both died, totally silly.

Now some good news..Joa traded us Spices, has Calendar.
We have Glib.

Still only 2 Archers in Corn city, unfortunately we can *again* not move out this turn cos we lost too many HAs and would have only 3 healthy with 1 across river..
2 more HAs arriving soon +1 Archer for Besh.

Some decisions we must make on builds + tiles now in cities, Boston could whip HA (i think we should, but did not yet).

I checked what's in Krak, and made a screenie..another Keshik /shrug.
We know what's in both cities this turn.
We maybe could get cease fire now, position our Horsies and take corn city that way..
Chopping Catapults in Besh should be no problem once we get Construction.

Did MM failgold TGL? I was hoping we could trade Lit to him...

Anyhow, since we are geared for war and the 2 cities from GK will not be enough to make up for the investment, we should probably produce only military at this time. Or can anyone figure out a smarter thing until Construction hits?

I kinda want to check out DrE's unit movement. A scout heading towards him would give us the timing info we would need on his stack movement.

What if we got 4-5HA and sent them south and attacked and took the city. Would he take peace if we offered fishing?

We can't afford to keep fighting his UU as we are losing badly to them.

His UU has no boni over ours in fights. We are simply losing the RNG battles, nothing more... there is no reason to believe that this will continue.

But yes, if we can take the corn spot soon, then I, too, believe that we should. We can't risk losing Beshbalik to his stack, however, which makes this mission a bit tricky. How many turns will his stack need to reach Beshbalik? Three? Four?

Do we know how many units are garrisoned in the southern city yet?

Read Fippy post. 2 archers. Maybe 1 whipped. 5-6 HA should take it unless he is able to whip a spear.

Ok, great. Should be takeable soon then. What do the others think about powering more units and then switching to pults as soon as Construction is done?

We need iron soon. If shaka declares we have no unit to fight off his uu phant. Maybe a new city once we take peace?

Archers can hold the UU phant super easy or does he get boni vs them by some chance? As far as I remember it's a 5str phant.
