SGOTM 21 Pre-Announcement Discussion Thread

To echo what others have said give it a go, join a team who use the PPP (pre play plan) process and you will learn an enormous amount. Just be up front about your limitations and people will accommodate you. Sometimes you find there's an area of the game more experienced players know less well than you because of the nature of their games - e.g. Religious Victories or Corporations have been recent examples.

What level should a person be playing to be able to contribute to an Immortal game? I'm really intimidated by the idea of playing something that high - I know a team helps a ton but don't really want to play if I'd totally need to be carried without being able to contribute.

I also am having computer problems so may not be able to make January start either way but just kinda wondering on what people think of the level to see how rushed I should be about getting my computer and Civ to stop fighting.

My first sgotm, I was a Prince/king level player, and that one or the next was at Deity. None of my teamates was a deity ace, but the sum total is more than enough to compete as we did quite well.

And the most important aspect... if you want t9 improve... even if your teamates are all at noble level, you will learn a lot by playimg on a team. Its a much longer/slower learning curve to lurk.

Join a team, participate, and ask a lot of questions. You will quickly learn all sorts of new ways to accomplish things. No matter your level.

I've found that even the best IMM/Deitey level players are continuously learning. So join if you want to improve your play in a fun social environment. The only reason not to join is if you think your interest (pr computer/internet connection) can't last for 3 months, and/or you will be so busy with other things that you won't be able to chat with teamates over that time period.

A few more unallocated and we can make a 7th team. It would feel gooder for the winners if the laurels were awarded to less than half the teams.:mischief:
