We have a new GG in Rome... I suggest we count him as a unit until next keeper-city... but if there are better ideas I'm open.

Two significant events... Carthage declared war on us again. He has no stack, so it must have been bribe. I killed his units and pillaged his ivory. Otherwise did not pursue war... the only annoying thing is his trireme outside Hadr, but small nuisance.
We are safe up there.

Second... Darius dogpiled Saladin!:clap:

Saladin's stack broke on a cg2 musket in Fishy, and I mopped up his wounded units. I now have an easy batle 100% to kill his last unit in Kashir... and suppose we should raise it and pillage the area and salt the earth.

Note, Sal has Cuirasirs now... so wiping him out is a good idea, but he will talk, so maybe peace and backstab Darius is smarter?

I think we really ned some economy and science atm. This game is looking like it will go to adv armor if we don't mash enough big cities with cannons.

Should we upgrade trabs or build fresh cannons? What atack route/priorities? We can make a north stack and elim Carthage if we choose... not sure if it pays off short term, but longer-term the stack can be used again...

Anyhow... a good spot to stop and make decisions. I am also happy to hand off if DH or someone else got their game on, or I can keep going according to a team strategy. How much killin on Saladin, for example?

For the game I vote raze. For war against sal or dar Im really unsure what would be best. Maybe backstab persia asap.
 
I'll still take us to cannons. Whatever GPerson we get, he won't get ireversibly used before then... so the only necessary decision before that is raze/kep, and we seem to have a quorum on RAZE.

After Steel we will know which GP we have, and can think about tech path from there - if we are stealing tech or heading for a bulb,

Lots to decide. Saladin will deal (see screens), Darius needs backstabbing, do we want to take Baghdad (still many turns off), what tech to chase, do we wipe Carthage out, etc etc. Upgrade trebs or just build new? And who's up next (I can play if we get decisions).

Some opinions:
Peace with sal use the money to upgrade trebs.
Regroup and jump on persia.
settle the generals(or save one for an academy) we still need a lot of units and I dont think space is reasonable with all the wonders we have left.
Save the good near cities (old jungle cities to the north) until we wont have any city spots left. When we eventually could get our hands on the mids we should do so by growning rome even a little bit more.
MS for grens first then go for wonders start with kreml then radio.

I'd suggest settling a GG up north, Carthage perhaps, and building an Academy (Rome?) when MS comes in. I agre with peace with Sal...Baghdad is far from ready to fall, our units are a little spread, and Sal is building up with Cuirs, so we won't get a better deal for some time. Never know when Darius will make peace with Sal, so we don't want to miss the opportunity - Darius is becoming a monster. We wouldn't have attacked Sal before cannons if we had the choice, probably.

I think we should start building a stack in the north... kill Carthage (unless a tasty peace deal is offered) and have a second prong into Persia.
Upgrade the most promoted trebs, see how long MS would take probably 17-18 turns.

Make a few spies to steal cheap tech from Sal. Our Econ is a bit sluggish (35% break even research), so ch's and eventual Forb Pal will probably help our end-game, considering how much tech to go. Hard to say how much we get from conquest economy.

I don't understand what "Save the good near cities (old jungle cities to the north) until we wont have any city spots left." means. Refering to Persian cities?
 
I mean the persian city and maybe carthage cap. This is just a change in opinion from saving hard to capture wonder cities to save the first captured cities to quickly increase our productivity.
 
OK, me and Z are on the same page, The rest of the team? To clarify, we peace with Sal and take the cash (plus map, that is not small bonus). We attack Darius with as many cannons as rthe cash allows. We are relentless. This was our main aim for advantage. We kill while D-stack is healing in Mecca, and hope Sal can keep it occupied while we terrorize his prime cities. We march thru Cathage city in our way, and take peace with Carthage when it gives us that access to Åersia. Our ultimate aim is a path to Ethiopia, so I pause if the maps show something unexpected. Otherwise, I march to make a hole towards Ethiopia, who is too much WW tech maniac for us. I pause after each tech to decide the next, I pause if the warring gets unwelcome participants. I pause if I get too many individual decisions to handle comfortably. I pause if I get distractions from the Jultomte.

Sound ok, or should we wait till after the holidays, to be sure the team is all in?

Houston, we have a problem.
Our beautiful cannon/Prat/Pike etc stack is in tatters. Darius arived with a stack of about 15 Grens and 10 muskets and assorted other things, just 1 turn before I would take the second of two cities. He had enough combat success to no longer be willing to talk. I think retreat and beg for peace asap is the only thing to do. We are 15 turns from MSci. Will take some time to make anew the stack. Never saw it coming... probably someone else should take over.

Well played kcd. It seems like this game is a hard one. I have looked into my calendar in january and I only got ~4 free hours the 6 and 7th. So a Ppp then would only be: play until victory or defeate.

I have time to play... was mostly just disgusted at the epic fail. I think we can do a better ppp than what you suggest, tho if things go bad... it would probably come to the same.

I'd like another set of eyes... to me, it looks like the remainder of our stack will get mopped up while retreating -might be better just to spread and pillage;, and we will lose the newly acquired Persian city unless the AI does some stupid delay.

So the question... 1) write off our gains and turtle the rest until we have grens, and can get our tech going again (even ofer it for peace if necessary) or 2)make our last stand here with whipped muskets/cannons and hope for some beter luck.

I'm leaning toward the first option. Maybe someone with new eyes can se more options? Get some spies to Sal and pick up as much cheap tech as we can to help us catch up some. Good thing we still have a GG to make a new medic when this one dies.:rolleyes:

I also think turtle in is a good idea. I guess from seeing the other teams progress that a victory will be enough for an award. Should have been safer to plan for space in the begining by cottaging rome.

This is definitely something to inspire thought! I think all those units in Rome could get to our Persian city in time, and enough of them upgrade to something that our power level induces talk. Then we could give cash and map to peace (though a longshot if we can't aford upgrades). So... is it worth delaying MS about 5-6 turns to try and defend our gains, or should we stop throwing good money after bad. Tough choice. I am a stubborn guy, and would like to hold what we have if at all possible, The Rome exodus + upgrading should be enough. The only question is whether that puts us in better position or worse. I mean, if we keep falling behind in tech, its just a matter of time before we lose it anyhow.

So, new option is to turtle even with the gains. Making new units for further expansion is no problem in Rome, and the least of our worries at the moment, as we are not in expansion but retreat. So I am inpired for now with the DH idea, unless/until someone shoots holes in it. Good job, Deckhand, for giving me an option I don't feel quite so disgusted with.:goodjob:

Turle mode, improve the tech rate, wipe'em out with something else... artillery isn't so far if we can get the baby tech that makes our econ work.
