SGOTM 23 - Turbo Ants

New question: Suppose Darius axe is in Munich when we close borders and we have a unit at Munich-2S2E. There are 2 tiles to which the axe could teleport (value = 19), Munich-2S2E and Munich-3E. Munich-2S2E has priority according to teleport rules, but we have a unit there. WHere does the axe teleport?

Turnset Report T101-T111

We say a prayer.

T101
Plunder 25g from village
argh HA by gold has already moved 1 tile, didn't notice before. CHange plans to using Thebes warrior to replace GS, HA will garrison Thebes.
NO ONE told me that the worker plan puts our worker in danger to Joao's axe! :cringe: :wallbash: :gripe: Luckily I noticed before I released the movement with the mouse. ;) That was very close. Prayer is working. :yup:

We say another prayer.

Trade copper to Stalin for 2gpt. Might as well, we're going to in 2t anyway.
SHeep to Mao for 2 gpt.
Hm...might miss on a happy trade if I keep this up. No more.

IT
Joao's scouts leave Athens in peace. Cannot bother the sheep next either.
Sal spreads Islam to the ducks in Canal City.
Gandhi will trade sucre et beurre pour les crepes. Yummy.

T102
We tech Machinery.
Our chariot destroys Joao's axe.
Scout finds Mao Zedung spear.
11g from cottage.
Darius' 20% Pasagardae (on silver) has archer+CIaxe+settler
60% Persepolis has archer+CIaxe. :D

Trade copper to Churchill for 2gpt
Trade iron to Mao for crabs
Gift copper and iron to Mehmed
We can build warriors now.
Trade clams to Gandhi for sugar. Thebes needs it, because the HA doesn't get there till T105.

IT
Sal spreads Islam to Paris. Another Islamic Miss is approaching Munich. Please go to Hamburg.
Pasagardae births a 2nd archer, Persepolis not.
Darius axe arrives in Munich.

T103
Hamburg takes control of sheep and forest an planned! 55% to 45%. Yay, hooray, for the happy couple.
We spy 3 wkrs around Pasagardae, none by Persepolis.
We bulb Philosophy.
We start our Golden Age. We're 37 final beakers from getting Feudalism in 1t. Could delay civics change till next turn for vassalage, but I'm not gung-ho about re-thinking everything under the Egyptian suns.
Our C2 HA beats Joao's axe at crappy odds.

We say another prayer.

A second C2 HA dies to Joao's archer at crappy odds. C3 cleans up and we score 106g, which is 4g less than the PPP estimates. Oporto loses granary and lh but keeps its aqueduct. :crazyeye: Too late to build HG here and devote Thebes to GPs, I think.

We convert to Islam. Time to whip. We whip.
We have 245g in reserve. Our maintenance is -158gpt. +351 raw bpt.
We revolt to Caste+Pacifism. Maint: -163gpt. 366 raw bpt (before assigning specialists in cities). Not too shabby.
We don't have the option of bribing Darius to Castes. Hm...why not? Uh, maybe cuz he doesn't have CoL. ;)
We trade himm Castes and he doesn't like us enough to adopt Castes. He's at +3 fair trade, will +4 do it? My chart says yes, but how much in techs would this require? Not much because CoL got us +2 plusmods.
We trade Darius Aesthetics. Bingo! Pleased and willing to trade for Castes, which he'll for a lousy 90g.
We trade Darius HBR for Castes. Yes!

I mine(1t) instead of chop(1t) at Berlin-2W. argh
Also accidentally clicked Workshop instead of Cancel action on the Hamburg farmer a couple turns ago and accidentally noticed after only 1t of wkshp. This screws up a Berlin knight and the Hamburg T121 GP. This game (CIV) has passed me by. Anyway, after an hour of manipulation I resolved the problem and revised the worker plan.
Incidentally, I also forgot to build/whip a cat in FC, so that's a lh instead. That cost us a cat at London and a good chunk of failgold on Moai. We'll have to make do. On the bright side, FC is producing a nice chunk of coins working the wines instead.

I think Hamburg will only keep the sheep 4-5t without more culture. It needs Islam desperately.
13g from hamlet. 14g from cottage.

We DoW Darius, don't lose any extra trade networks, capture a Darius worker next to Pasagardae, and kill off his Taoist.

IT
Sal demands we stop our deals with Gandhi, but offers no concubines as part of the deal. No!
Oh man. Pasagardae empties its settler and 2 archers out toward Persepolis. Only an axe defender but we have a mere 4.9/6 CII HA salivating.

T104
Persepolis. We sacrifice two C2 HAs to beat the axe down to 1.8/5 and the archer down to 1.4/3.
C4 HA get 1XP, C3 gets 2XP at 99.28% odds, kills the axe. Against the archer, C3 gets 2XP but only 97.98% odds. We risk it and collect 138g (:vomit:), a granary, a cute little lighthouse and a big, clunky one. Might raze it later. It's ugly and our clumsy frogmen might sink their rowboats against it

Unfortunately Darius' culture illegally remains at Pers-2S1E, blocking our remaining knights from surrounding Pasagardae and sealing off the archers' return. I'm tempted to kill the archers, but they're on a forest hill. Our survival odds are 80.74%, victory 75.93%. Any gamblers? We have 2@ C4 HAs, 1@ C3Shock and an axe, so we definitely win, but might lose a c4 knight upgrade.

Okay, I take no responsibility forwhatjust happened because I was accused of being a wimp. We now have the following:
0.9/6 C4 HA
1.2/6 C4 HA
0.3/6 C3 HA
4 slaves
and NO NEW LOSSES! The first HA withdrew, the second won and our axe cleaned up. We're going to need a super medic, n'est-ce pas?
We now see into Susa, defended by a C1 axe and an archer. There is also a C1 archer that could attack our 4.9/6 C2 Slave Maker (3 of the 4) across a river.

Most critical point in my turnset: Islamic Missionary spread in Munich...SUCCEEDS!!! And Sal's appears to be headed for Hamburg, so we might even have an extra, but barring unforeseen spread that screws everything up, we're in clover (knock on wood). Speaking of which, Hamburg now owns 65% of the sheep tile, even though it didn't put any culture into Hamburg. Go figure. Does that mean only 7c went in last turn and the other 20 got added after Sid calculated the %? Or hoowhat?

Crap, another mistake. Forgot to switch Berlin to Rax instead of stable, a change necessitated by the chop boo boo. That will cost us a knight if we want the stable 2XP. Hm... actually not, but a lesser unit because Guilds won't be done in time.

Village: 17g. Hamlet: 17g. Cottage: 10g.
Btw, killed Darius' axe. He blocked the path of our worker roading to Moscow for our Trade Mission. Lost our shock axe.

IT
Sal's Islamic Missionary goes toward pop7 Yakutsk. Population must factor into it.

T105
We tech Feudalism. Guilds in 2t, if we can pay for it...
Alexa pops a GS.
Edirne pacified and MIFAL.
Riddle for y'all: We have 3 badly damaged HAs at Pers-SW (no-man's land), 5XP, 15XP, 20XP, ready to start healing this turn. Our super medic is sitting in Persepolis. The HAs show these turn amounts for healing: 3t, 2t, 2t. If it's 10XP per turn healing in no-man's land and the super-medic adds 25XP per turn, how can one get 85XP in 2t?
Pillage: 22+6+10g. pffft Just when we needed some luck.

We spread Islam to Hamburg. We now have all GP cities with Islam.

Okay. Ready to hit <enter> on T105. Things are going fairly well. We should capture Pasagardae next turn and be able to pay for Guilds. Oporto doesn't come out of resistance until T108, messing up our iron for knights, but we can figure something out.

IT
Churchill demands Philosophy. Hm...we need him at Pleased to bribe him into castes. He's at +2 visible plusmods, +1 hidden. Already at +3 fair trade so we can only get 1 more there. IF we get +1 for caving to his threat, that'll be Pleased. Plus, if we gift him CoL maybe he'll revolt to Pacifism and Castes at the same time. Okay, I don't like it too much, I cave. Churchill Pleased. Hm...looking at his screen I see he already has CoL. If he revolts to Pacifism, that might delay our DoW a turn.

T106
Lisbon comes out of resistance with 4x4cpt TRs because of the harbor.
We lose our axe at Pasagardae, C3 HA withdraws :D, cleanup. 95g. Granary. Silver.
Wow! Our last upload was June 30.

Oh Hayzeus. I just saw that we're in a 10t peace deal with Churchill. Of course. :wallbash: I so rarely accept bribes. We start our war with him on T116. Better build more galleys. Send a scout or two over to plan things out. Add some cats for instant demolition. We'll see. That'll be someone else's headache.

Need some cash.
Trade Aesthetics to Stalin for fifty bucks and to Churchill for 30 quid.
Trade Priesthood to Sal for 20 papyrus rolls. Now we should make it to Moai on T108.

Trade screen says we don't have a trade network with Mao, while we still have the trades. If that will change IT, that's a true gift. Gives us back our iron just in time and all we lose is silks and rice, which we can survive just fine without. I'll still make preparations for regaining our iron, if need be.

IT
lol Mehmed begs to be our vassal. Never happened to me before. I ask for his city and he tears his beard off.
All our deals with Mao auto-cancel. We have iron just in the nick of time. Crazy.
Mehmed adopts Caste System.
Darius I converts to Buddhism. Taoism just wasn't doing it for him.

T107
We tech Guilds.
Banking(2t) That's a turn ahead of my MM plan, but aligns with what WT predicted. Alas that means I'll have to redo the GP plan to make sure it works out correctly.

IT
Crud. KK founds a 6th city somewhere...on our landmass thankfully.

T108
We get 544g from Moai. Good for 3t, through Engineering.
Beshbalik (40%) has cg1 ar + ar + ch. 3 knights should eat it up.
Karakorum (60% on hill) has cg2 ar + guer1 ar.

We capture Susa w/ granary and spices at the cost of our C3Shock HA. 54g to the better. Darius is no longer willing to capitulate. :crazyeye: Does that have anything to do with him being DEAD? Five down, six to go.
We now can trade resources again with Mao, so obviously DoWing Gandhi will mess that up again, since they don't have OBs. Our happiness situation will be touch and go. Good thing we captured spices and will have incense online in 3t.

We could DoW Gandhi this turn. Can't revolt him to Slavery because he hates us and it's too soon anyway I think. He still has no metal so I'm going to upgrade our super to knight.

Bombay (40%+settler+no Rax!) is defended by an archer and a warrior. Four fast workers on the bananas. Man if we had just a few more HAs we could probably capture Bombay and Delhi on consecutive turns. Haven't peekd in Delhi yet but no RAX!?!

Trade Mao CoL for 30g, gets himm to Cautious with us. Hopefully he'll build some courthouses instead of units.

IT
Sal has Monarchy now and adopts Hered Rule. 5t before we could revolt him to castes. He has sent out another Islamic Miss. Also a settler.

T109
The famous French chronicler Désirée notes that Napolean has Well Hung Gardens.
We tech Banking! Engineering in 1.5 turns.
Delhi (60%) has 2 CG1 archers. Either they were built elsewhere or BSP started him with them. Always meddling. The banana workers vanished except for one on the neighboring sugar. Probably have to chase them around.

Our graphs suck. Time to do something about it. We'll DoW Gandhi. :groucho: But first...we revolt to Mercantilism+Vassalage.

Our economy before: 610 rawbpt at -207gpt with 451g reserves. Civic upkeep 38. Unit cost 24.
Our economy after: 662 rawbpt at -197gpt with 451g reserves. Civic upkeep 49. Unit cost 12.

We DoW Gandhi (-18 negmods). Lose our sugar and ivory. Our allies yawn with slight curiosity, then say, "Now why didn't I think of that?"
Stone Quarry has 1 unhappy citizen in resistance. Oh crap, just when we were about to complete MoM. Jerusalem too. A couple other cities are at breakeven. buz2a3#woe%n;&i$a@sddfj

But guess what?!?!?!? We can still trade with Mao. We trade Mao wheat for silk. Will we lose that IT? I'ma thinkin' I saw that earlier in the turnset. sweet sheet No, that was t106 IT and it was the trade screen showing no trades but the deals still there until the IT. Now the trade screen shows we can still make deals with Mao. Hm...wait, we don't have Drama anyway so we don't have a cultural slider to adjust. Just have to take the trade and hope it holds up.

MM: Munich snuck a scientist specialist past me last turn. Infinitesmal chance for a GS instead of a GM. pffft

IT
Sal settles Basra with instant Hindusim, sheesh, 1n of the dyes. He'll dye for that.
Stalin births a GS and guess who else? Gandhi (Einstein in Bombay). yoh well. Maybe he'll settle it next turn, just before we capture. He doesn't have CoL yet.

T110
We build the Parthenon. She's a beauty.
Istanbul spawns a GM, per plan. phew
And...we build our first 3-promo knight. :D

Wouldn't you guess? Gandhi's Buddhic Miss blocks the path of our trade mission GM and do we have an HA handy. Noooooo. Luckily, when I calced his path to Moscow, I forgot to include Engineering on T111. So we have several tiles to spare and still get there on T112. Plus, an HA will arrive next turn to sweep the cowpies off the path.

Crap. Bombay already has a second archer to go with the warrior.

IT
Churchill the beyotch demands we switch religions and goes to Cautious. Very annoying luck. We'll put his testicles on a pike.

T111
Our Golden Age has ended, but we pop a GM in Athens and MoM in SQ just in the nick of time. More important, Delhi and Bombay do not have new units.

I lied. Not playing to T111, but into T111.

Delhi (205g+lh) falls without a loss.
Bombay kills our C2 HA and lives another day or so.

We spy Churchill's far northern 6th city. Sheesh. SOmeone's got their work cut out for them.
2 workers complete the incense plantation.

Maybe I should start the GA to make it easier to do MM, but I'll leave that to the next player.

Okay, now I can upload.

TURNSET COMPLETE. Write-up for next turnset to follow tomorrow.

.

don't forget about the sugar. Or maybe we don't need it rt now and we lose it when we DoW soon.

Where'd Darius' axe go?

don't forget about the sugar. Or maybe we don't need it rt now and we lose it when we DoW soon.

Where'd Darius' axe go?
Two tiles closer to Munich. He'll be in Munich next turn. I'm using both axes. He'll teleport to Munich-3E I think because one axe will block Munich-2S2E. There he'll be trapped by closed borders and our other axe on a forest hill. :) Unless he dives into the sea...

You think he'll head towards Istanbul? or r u planning to kill him before he chooses a direction?
No, I think he'll be trapped on a single tile. I dn't know what he'll do but no reason to attack him because he'll have great odds. We can sandwich him between the borders with our shock axe and he's trapped or he suicides himself.

Eventually we could work a charit over there if necessary and kill him on a bare hill. I'm just going to ignore him.

Do we want to gift Stalin up to coal so we can trade him for it on T+0 if he has 2 resources? Or only one if he's our vassal, right? Not that he seems to have very many mines, the keedpunk.

I'll pause to let you gamblers chime in.
Yes, bushwhack the archers. That's what our beefy C4 HAs are for.
(Really, 14 Str vs 13 on an upgraded knight doesn't make all that much difference)

It's still better odds than in a hill city, if you need any more convincing.

Well done on getting Persepolis. Great news. This guy over here might have overindulged a little though: [party]
No pressure to repeat the trick on Pasargardae. :mischief:

Forest hill is 75% bonus. City is what, 60% plus archer's natural city bonus? I'd take them out on the hill.

Edit: xpost with ZPV. Luckily we said the same thing.
