SGOTM 23 - Turbo Ants

So Istanbul cost us 5 HAs and 1 cat? I'll take that! Good job!

thx, I will keep moving foward, but we probably would benefit from some planning for Edirne + persep + lastMemedCity. Maybe should we skip 'lastMemedCity' cus we really want marble(Edirne) and Persep.

Let me know if someone wants an upload to study the troops

I agree. We can skip Yaroslav'l (although we will need to come back for it before it pops 40% borders).

EDIT: If you're taking a break, I'll take a look, please :)

Sal's city is going to steal our Marble...possibly both marbles :(
And our sheep in that city.

updating turnset report now

As of t96, he didn't have any culture on the tiles 1S of Edirne (sheep, northern marble).
We can fight the culture in our inner ring, I think.

Sure, we can get at least one marble back, but every turn without it is painful. We might starve a bit the first turn or two out of revolt without the sheep...unless the city was whipped down.

Very interesting situation at Edirne.
I'm sure there's a "right" way to do this. I'm just not quite seeing what it is.

I guess the ideal situation is for that mini-stack to suicide against 3 axes and one non-axe in Istanbul.
To achieve that, we'd have to hang back in the city, and presumably load most of our healthy HAs onto the galleys. They then can threaten Edirne next turn from the north, out of range of the sword stack (which would go back to defend Edirne if we threatened it this turn).

Do you know what's in Yaro? I wonder if that city can be had on the cheap.

I've got a couple HAs that could steal a worker at Yaro and peek inside. I also have a HA on the galley (thought maybe I could pick off a worker at Yaro-E.)
But then the mini-stack showed up.
If we retreat into the city, then the stack could move to that vacated spot and on to Jerusalem. I was thinking we hold our ground on the hill. 2 of our HAs on the hill can heal this turn if they don't move. We can add more fresh HAs to the hill and just take the beating.
As you pointed out tho, we have 2 more Axes coming. It'd be nice to incorporate them into the defense.

I'm woefully behind on the game with no access to Civ but I wanted to remind you that there is no longer a penalty for attacking across a river... right?

(from my phone)

I agree that we go with 3 axes + HA in Istanbul next turn if they approach the city.
For now, stack the HAs with the Axe and fully heal all 4. Then we can swarm Edirne.

I'm about to roll to T99. My current decision on Yaro is to snag those 2 workers T100 (forest) and T101(cottage) and Edirne T100. Cease Fire and let him build us more workers. IIRC he had 3, so maybe there will be another steal opportunity. We have a great worker trap where he cannot see Munich 2SE.

edit: No, snagging workers T98 and T100, then off to Persepolis.

Oh gloriousness! Name one thing we'd like to see T99?

Did Memed suicide his stack on ours? Was a GS born?
Spoiler :
Darius will trade Monarchy
what should we give him?

Dang, I was planning for Joao's axe to teleport right in front of our chariot when we DoW, but now it's travelled so far toward CanalCity that it will teleport west of Athens.

solution! close borders with him now, T99. teleports where I wanted it.
I'm going to wait until tomorrow in case someone wants to double check my teleport. I'll tidy up the save, upload and call it a night soon.

The bad thing is: the axe will probably move to the forested hill before we get a chance to attack.

I know we'd like cats, but I don't see how to get them to the front. During my turnset, all HAs were needed because of the Lisbon 2nd army. Now we're done there (mostly...soon), but still I can't see building Cats way in the west. Maybe chop them out of Persepolis? But it seems like by the time a city comes out of revolt, we've moved on. The cats can never catch up.

I suppose after we drop 8 units at Persepolis, we can galley chain cats, etc. from Berlin.
