Shouldn't we try to get tech for peace if possible? We have other targets, and we need to wait some a couple turns anyways in order for her to give us open borders.
 
I am not very knowledgable about tech steals, so have not been able to comment usefully. But I like the sound of things. More techs, more cities, more great people...all good things. :) I agree that we can easily find a use for a GE if we happen to get one.

Any thoughts on the best path for our future railroad? Northern through Russia and Mongolia, or more southern through Persia and India? We are planning to conquer everyone anyway, so I don't know if it really makes much difference. But maybe worth thinking about, in case anyone spots possible complications.
 
Sure, we can make peace with Hatshepsut for a nice sized Techology like Machinery. I just suggested a cease fire, so we have the option to immediately DoW Hatshepsut to capture her remaining cities.

Getting the -20% trade route espionage discount can be really difficult. Even closing all borders, except Hatshepsut's, will not guarantee we will get this discount. It is often not worth the effort to get it. When you get it, be happy, but don't waste effort trying to get it.
 
Oh...I didn't realize the trade route bonus was talking about Commerce trade routes. With just 50% modifier, our Science tech rate is slightly faster than our Espionage tech rate as far as getting Machinery goes. We'll want to get one of the religion bonuses at least to make it more cost effective to steal a tech.

Edit* we don't have enough to run 100% science until machinery finishes, so I'll go with espionage until we hit the amount of EP needed to steal at 50% discount and run wealth.
 
Uploaded the save. Thebes is taken, and will whip a forge as soon as we get out of resistance. Hatty was building the AP in Thebes, but we took care of that before it finished.

My suggestion is to switch to Rep soon before Thebes comes out of resistance, and maybe switch religious civics as well in preparation for a religion switch.

I did make one infuriating misclick on our spy in NW city while microing workers, so it's reset to 1 or 2 turns of waiting. Sorry about that.
 
If you want to take the save, I think that's fine. I think we need to keep this game moving if we want to finish in time.
 
Good point! The deadline is August 31st; that is just 22 days from now and we have to research/acquire quite a few technologies before we liberalize Railroad.

I suggest that anyone that has time, post here that they have the save and just play as many turns as they want. We can no longer afford to have lengthy discussions that last for days on what to do.

I will try to play a few turns tonight, assuimg noone has grabbed the save in the next 6-7 hours.
 
On the turn we win, we need to own Istanbul and a city in the Orient and connect these two cities with Paris via Railroad controlled directly by us, our lone vassal or any AI we have a Defensive Pact with.

As mentioned above, I plan to play several turns guided by our general plans for our end game.

I will begin playing in 30 minutes.
 
I plan to build Barracks and Forges, an Islamic Monastery and Musketeers everywhere else that is appropriate.
 
We have 7 HAs and 2 Musketeers 2 plots from Memphis. I think it may be worthwhile to suicide about 4 HAs into the two Lb CG2 in Memphis so the 2 Musketeers can take the city this turn. There is a 20% chance of doing no damage on the first attack on each LB, so there is some risk of losing two more HAs (6 total).

On the other hand, our Catapults can be in position to bombard Memphis in 3t. Memphis does not have walls yet, so 1t of bombardment of 5 Catspults can reduce cultural defense from 60% to nearly 20%. On the 4th turn, we can bombard with 3 Catapults bringing cultural defense down to zero and barrage with 2 Catapults. We will also have about 6 more Musketeers in position to attack as well.

I guess the latter plan is better.
 
We will need to steal or research Code of Laws, so we can build Courthouses in nearly every city to reduce maintenance. Our research rate is slightly better than 30% and will become worse as we capture more cities.

We can send about 10 Musketeers to capture Jerusalem before we finish Hastshepsut.
 
We should probably adopt Representation and Organized Religion for 1t anarchy. We can research a little faster, have 3 happiness in our 5 biggest cities, build buildings faster and build missionaries without monasteries.
