SGOTM 23 - Unusual Suspects

She probably won't send her main stack there and only have a 50%-75% chance to take the city with her idea of a sizeable army.
She will if we tell her to! The turn we DoW Sal we tell her to attack the city and then monitor and adjust as needed. ;)

Ah so you can not only tell vassals who to attack but also which city!:) Maybe that is one more reason why I never get close to the gold medals in BOTM.

I believe it is in the we want to discuss something else menu. Why don't you attack X city!

Yes. You can't actually tell them who to attack, just which city.
You can direct Research and Attack of vassals from wwtdse else like Ron said.

Let's split the final ten turns into two people/turnsets.

nocho is up

:ar15:

Ok, got it for 5 turns. Am on holidays but should be able to play during the coming evenings.

Do you want a PPP? :D

Basically, get RR in 1, follow astro. Get nationhood next turn, declare on arabs too next turn or turn after.

Get started on transsiberian RR, istanbul as sidetrack.

Besides that, killkillkill.

Green!

You can tell vassals which city to attack, but they still have other priorities that they won't over-ride (they will keep defenders in all cities, they will keep enough units around the enemy stack to nullify, and therefore they will send units from far far away to do the attack, and they will be opportunistic if something juicier is dangled in their faces). After 1-2 turns their other idiotic priorities tend to overweigh everything and so you have to tell them every turn to attack the same city, and their units end up doing rather useless circling around.

Do NOT kid yourself into thinking that telling them which city to attack is in any way effective. I find it is really only useful when you want to send them AWAY from a city you'd like to keep for yourself and not have your vassal snatch it from you.

I played 6 turns to 1180.

The English are dead.

The Mongols are dead.

The Chinese are hiding out in their island rersort of Macau, but we should reach that in 2 turns.

The Arabs are left with 3 cities, but the last ones will need some reinforcements to crack. Asked Hatty a couple of times to attack Najran, but doubt she took notice. :gripe: Should land units at Thebes with galleons and move down. First 2 cuirs are at 2 turns striking distance. Of course galleons can also move down along the Egyptian shore, but could encounter Arab boats still.

The Indians are also at war with us. Took the first city.

The railroad is done. At least I think so, please check. ;) Been railroading to the front now.

We're a turn from rifling. That gives cavs, but loses 2-move drafteable units. Seeing their odds though, might as well get cavs to finish things off.

The end should be nigh. Maybe not as nigh as I'd have liked too, but I guess we'll meet the deadline. :p

EDIT: I just see an unprotected worker farming sugar next to Xian, that must be some misclick. He might die IBT for doing improper work. :mischief:

The RR connects Paris to Istanbul and Istanbul to the Far East sign, all in our cult borders EXCEPT the Far East Sign. However, the Far East is in our culture in 4t, or we could get it in 1t using the culture slider, so no problem there. Just watch for pillagers. Looks like key tiles are safe from flipping to barbs or others.

Upgrading cuirs to cavs is only useful if we face a bottleneck getting enough units to the last war front. We might be kinda thin now. But really... we don't need tech, the slider goes to zero for upgrade cash... maybe even USuf for buying at the front cities we cN'T whip and draft in.

Don't be shy with the whip... cold whips are ok... whatever gets most units to the front fastest---no point sparing population now.

Looks like it will be tight for the bronze laurels, so every turn counts (and we are far from any risk of spoons, so whip like there is no tomorrow (because in fact, for most of our cities, there isn't a tomorow).;)

Well done:goodjob:
Do we need to own the sign? I thought it only was a city there.
Tech rifling and upgrade to cavs seems like a good idea to get power to the border. The middle east cities are small and hence there is not so much whip production there.

We just need to own a city in the Orient/Far East region, so we have met that objective.

There is still 10 days left. Maybe KCD wants to play the last turns since he has the lowest turns played. If we going to win the bronze we would probable want to thank Alan for that. He decided that it would be no deadline extension and most probable it is Xteam that need one.

Some suggestion for the last turns:
Build wealth! and upgrade every cuir on the front. Military builds in russia and europe will probably not make it to the front by now.
There is a sleeping ironclad outside Susa that could be used to bombard Dehli.

Sorry, with everyone back from vacations, work has jacked up to high pace again. Too many day-trips, project kick-offs, and crisis-solving to be of much use for planning anything. If I played, it would be my usual inefficient style. I'd feel more secure if one of you who is more heavily involved in the game do what is necessary,:please:

Ok I just wanted you to have something fun to do to get away from all the work stuff. Like I said before if we would get the third place it would rather be thanks to Alans decline of deadline extension. If we going to lose or gain a turn in the end now it would be due to combat odds.

DH or Ron for the finish?
If this is correct
Deckhand: 0 - 5, 70-82, 105-115, 140-153
nocho: 5-20, 115-125, 172-178
Ronnie1: 20 - 40, 55-70, 90-99, 131-140
Zhary: 40 - 54, 126-131, 154-172
kcd_swede: 83 - 89, 100-104
(and kcd isn't available) Then it is Ron's turn.

:goodjob:

Conquest achieved on T183, Jerusalem captured the same turn.

Victory screen on T184.

Here is the save before we win if anyone wants to watch the graphics or see the numbers and charts and the autolog file.

I also PM'ed AlanH and let him know we finished.
