SGOTM 9 - Bede

I'll be back as well for another SGOTM. Mark and me thought it would be fun to do a little practice SG in between. Anyone interested?
I will be interested.

Crakie and me thought it would be best to try an old SGOTM. One where we have not read the threads yet. We both have read SGOTM 8 thread "hydrophobic Americans". So this won't be possible. But apart from that everything can be done. What's with SGOTM 7?

SGOTM7 is a Deity game with lots of locally intense barbarian activity.

The Celt game which was SGOTM 6 IIRC might be a good choice. Interesting map with lots of different ways to go.

Seems ironically appropriate to play the Celts after getting beaten by them :) I'm more than willing to practice with this variant.

As with SGOTM9, it's a handbuilt map (presumably with all sorts of surprises), Pangea, so land warfare will be crucial. Two interesting changes:

The only governments allowed are Despotism and Communism
You must win a 100K culture victory.

So we are heading on to the future and plan for the next SGOTM. But before we do so we must finish SGOTM 9 dignified. We were the team of newbies and had a great captain who introduced us to SGOTM. At the end we have to acknowledge that,

our captain Bede has left the Civ 3 world forever.

But no great captain of SGOTM shall go to the eternal civ3 map (Type: Pangaea, Size: Endless, Barbarians: none ) without being mourned!
So the Viking warlords - beaten by superior culture (Christianity, or something like that) - but undefeated on the field of glory, are gathering to their final “Ting” around the funeral pyre of their captain to sing the heroic epic of Bede, Great Lord of the civers:

Hail to Bede, Great Lord of the civers!

Since SGOTM 3 long ago BEDE did rule;
always keeping and guarding the schedule;
BEDE accepted for him the noble task;
to introduce all the newbies, who had so much to ask;
BEDE taught Mason to water the cattle;
and Crazybeard to guard the one who shall settle;
BEDE demonstrated for Crakie uploading and placing the save in the post;
and showed Madviking, the benefits of killing opponents only almost;
BEDE advised Bahzell to keep peaceful while he does the dwellings establish;
and introduced us all to the fact that fascism is rubbish;
BEDE didn’t feel any fear facing a superior foe;
no matter how many techs more this one ever would know;

Hail to Bede, Great Lord of the civers!

May you further our efforts look upon;
and forever in our hearts civ on!

Feel free to join you guys, who also have been introduced to SGOTM by team Bede.

:blush:

I have tears in my eyes. Thanks for the memories, they are all good ones!

Let's take Bede's advice for the last time then... SGOTM 6 it is :)

I set up a thread in the SG forum here

lukers comment...

hey guys... looked over your thread.. very interesting game you pulled off here.

i was on bede's team last month, and might i say he is a terrific leader!

its tough to enter this SGOTM with total newbies in the succesion game scenario.

sure 2-3 might be diety level players, but the succesion twist adds a whole new concept as all players have to be on the same page.

tough loss this month, the celts just seemed to strong in your game.
i played for team hagar and they were strong in ours... but we were stronger.
we wiped everyone out except the ottomans and left them with one island city while giving them all our techs.

then we set ghandi free and he got every tech. but the damn moron would not build the spaceship.

the team seems dedicated and even without bede in the next game, i think you guys would do great.

nice work guys!
