SGOTM 9 - Wacken

Oh well, I guess I have to play in the blind then... :D

Turn log

0 – 1770AD
Hit return

IBT: Two Indian Modern Armor land near Vadso.

1 – 1772AD
Redline the MA’s with Artillery then attack with Elite Cavalry and Knights. No leader but we lose a cavalry.

2 – 1774AD
Iznik tries to flip

3 – 1776AD
No declaration of independence.

IBT: Indian MA brutally murders our brave Warrior. Pollution

4 – 1778AD
Cleaned up some pollution.

5 – 1780AD
Absolutely nothing.

6 – 1782AD
Manhattan Project finishes in NY!!!???

IBT: 3 MA’s land next to Vadso, a major offensive?

7 – 1784AD
While dealing with the Indian intrusion I spotted something I guess I found to be a bit weird. When bombarding the MA’s I thought I saw one of the Indian MA’s lose a HP and then promote to Elite???? Is it possible to promote from being on the receiving end of an artillery bombardment?

8 – 1786AD
Events: Nil

9 – 1788AD
Events: Almost nil!

IBT: Mech.

10 – 1790AD
Cleaned up some pollution.

Summary.

A lot of hitting return and less of anything else…

Indian builds now include 3 ICBM’s so we need Strategic Missile Defence. I have changed 5 cities to build SAM batteries so the next player can switch NY to SMD next turn.

Other Indian builds include Wall street and a FP. One uni and a couple of Libraries so not 100% military now. At least something good.

1806 I discoverd this:

apollo.jpg

So they started it 1804.

Since klarius has been stuck on the year where they are for an eternity, can that be a trick?

I'm just stunned India finally decided to go somewhere else.

That's bad spelling. Try to multitask yourselves, dammit! :)

We have 2 scenarios here:

Klarius won by 1800AD.

Or we give a windate at 1804AD, and they held their last hand.

I have absolutely no idea. Wacken is the poker-player in this team, is he better than Klarius?

My guess, is that we lost by a turn. Or maybe won by a turn?

Bloody hell, don't do this to me!!!

Well: klarius - Well, it was turn 2 1735 as written in the log.

They beat us badly!

We played for centuries to get India to build the small wonder, but the luck of the draw counts.

Do I sound snotty? Well, for once, dear klarius didn't need skill to win something ;)

Thank you Gozpel, finally someone on the team that managed to coerse them into building the Apollo. To bad this game turned out to be such a dud, it had a lot of portential and sounded so fun at the start.

I dont see that india has finished Apollo yet? (I just see that they have started it..)

Prolly just a matter of hitting enter 10 times or so thou.. so one of you should do it..

Maybe 12 or so... ;) I have already looked at all the other team threads so will have to stay out of any "action" in this game yet to come. :D

I didn't waste much time, although I left animations on so I could spot invasions.

My mini log:

1808 Vadso is captured.
Carthage wants us to rule it, but we rebuff.

I recaptured Vadso next turn.

New Stavenger is pounded every turn by the indians.

In 1818 I kill 4 modern armor who invade our main island.

I investigated Reykjavik quite a lot to make sure I spotted this in 1828:

I see you are all too dispirited about this game to comment further, but it is at least over. There is no real point carrting on to try to get the Indians to build a space ship, although I suppose they might, in which case we would win the laurels I suppose.

Realistically, given the mess of relying on the AI to decide to build a ship, the fairest comparison point between teams is when Indian had all the techs to build a ship. Even this is potentially unfair, as no one regarded this as an end point at the time so no team will have played to optimize this date: we could certainly have improved a few turns as we had surrendered a fair portion of our core before the GL city.

On that basis I think we can probably claim a moral victory, although it was much closer than I thought. K et al were nearly as quick as us in tech, presumably due to sneaky tricks we didn't think of (I haven't read their thread). I don't know about the other teams: some of their threads are astonishingly long, and I can't read them through.

That's two moral victories in a row. I preferred real victories but will take this.

Thanks everyone. You all played superbly as always. :goodjob:

I have been severely limiting my civness of late, just playing in this and goz10 since finishing cotm19. I really haven't any enthusiasm for civ4 at the moment, so may stop playing altogether, at least for a while.

The confusion about the apollo made me go through the other team threads prematurely so if someone want to continue until the indians maybe launch a SS I am afraid I have to stay out of the loop.

Thanks to everyone for a great game as usual though the excitement and enthusiasm for this game unfortunately go lost somewhere along the line. RL issues for most of the team also played a part in this. I have just begun to have time for Civ again and actually played a couple of GOTMs during the past few weeks. CIV is out of the question though, getting started on it would probably bring havoc to my RL committments so better not... ;)

Oh well.. :)

This was the last one. (yeah, really this time)
So good luck guys, maybe we will meet again when they made civ5 or something.

Other than that, i invite everyone to follow my game against Gozpel on Gman's CDZ forum, it might just be the last civ game i play :)

Somehow I figured out things the wrong way:

the teams who persuade India to build the Apollo project and to learn all the techs required to build the spaceship earliest

I thought it was enough for them to start the project, not finishing it. My bad. But bad wording on the rule-setter.

And no, I don't want to get a space-jumbo, it's pretty though.

Offa and Wacken, I'm sorry to see you leave, if that's what's happening. I've really enjoyed competing with you, and against you. :hatsoff:

I share your feelings--Civ III is pretty well played out by now, but Civ IV doesn't seem to offer much to those of us who like the military aspect of the game.

At very least it is the last sgotm i will be playing for a while.

I don't really like civ4 either, and i don't have any other games to play besides poker.
There will probably be a moment someday when i feel like playing civ3 again, but i won't be playing sgotm then, i might just show up someday in a gotm.
I may also play more of those PBEM's like im playing now with gozpel.

And if you guys don't see me here in the comming years, who knows, maybe i will be here again with civ5 :)
