SGOTM problems after HD replacement

After the replacement of a failing hard drive, I cannot get my SGOTM games to run. I have done a fresh CIV 3 complete install, ran the Rev A updater (removing the two extraneous disabled resources files) and added the SGOTM resources.

Loading my current SGOTM file (Tao_SG012_BC0750_01,SAV) take much longer than usual and when I attempt to either save or complete a turn (for the latter I get a few Civ unit movements, Civ advance notifications then the spinning beachball until the programme quits. The text below is an extract from a typical crash log.

"Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS (0x0001) at 0x123ffff9

Thread 0 Crashed:
0 <<00000000>> 0xffff8cc8 __memcpy + 1320 (cpu_capabilities.h:189)

2 com.aspyr.civ3conquests 0x0019ca18 game_data(unsigned char*, bool) + 2748
3 ..........."

Am I missing some step or has my DVD become corrupted ??

I'm not sure what this means. All you should have to do is to put the SGOTM folder into your Scenarios folder.

However ...

I downloaded the above tao team save, opened it with FileValet, which reported that it is corrupt. So FileValet has detected some extra data injected by a PC which would probably cause problems in an unpatched version of Civ3 Complete. With my Rev A patched installation I was able to save the game, play the complete interturn, and save again at 730 BC without problems, so the "corruption" is not causing problems here.

Can you confirm that your Civ3 Complete application file shows Version: 1.22 Rev. A (v10667) in the Finder's Get Info? Also, it should be shown as a Universal Application.

I have the correct version installed, and it still crashes.

After running it thru FileValet, it works fine.

Chalk one up for FileValet :)

Are you guys running on an Intel Mac or a PPC? I was trying it on my MacPro, and I think this is platform-dependent.

I just tried it on my G4. It hung for a very long time at 36% but eventually loaded. When I tried to save, it hung again and then crashed with the same crash vector as reported above.

Yes, the screen is showing 1.22 RevA.

I think I have it - I copied the contents of the GOTM folder into the respective sub-folders - NOT required ! This is probably the fatal error. I will leave contents in place tonight and re-check.

For Info - I am running a 800 MHz 17" iMAc (PPC) with second external screen (shared with my PC running CivAssist - and linked over an Ethernet network to read (manually) the current autosave file.

Thanks all

I tried it on a PPC 2x1GHz MDD with 1.75 GB ram. Loading the save takes over a minute.

If you are using a PPC Mac, it looks as though it is a good precaution to run all incoming SGOTM saves through FileValet. It takes seconds, and should save you any future pain of this kind.
