Just remember if you throw in gpt with the peace deal, I believe you'll really end up in a 40 turn deal, because the AI will automatically renegotiate it after the first 20.

You should have the preferences set to automatically renegotiate. That way you have the power to kill the deal after 20.

Well, guys I totally apologize for my ignorance on that, really didn't know you could do that. But, at least it wasn't a gpt deal, it was just a straight payment of 130g, which at the time, we made that and more in 1 turn.

I'm at work for the rest of the night, but I'll finish up tomorrow.

Once again, totally my bad :(

@rt, not the best deal you could have made, true, but all in all not the worst. The "haul them screaming to the conference table" tactic is one I learned from Charis ( a true master of the game) back in the early days of C3C. And it has served me well ever since.

I've steered clear of that option mainly due to wanting to keep peace treaties open. Wouldn't that cause me to renegotiate peace automatically, even if it might not be in my favor? I know I've tried renegotiating some deals myself only to find the AI had magically reallocated all its money because I killed the deal. So wouldn't leaving this unchecked maybe let the deal last a few turns longer because the AI didn't reallocate first?

Maybe I just don't understand the full functionality of that option.

Let's first be clear on the point with everyone that a normal peace treaty is not a deal that would require renewal every 20 turns. Some times an AI after being beat up in a war with you will come back after 20 to try and renew just to stay in your good graces.

My understanding is that if you leave the option off when the 20 turns end, the deal remains in place on a turn-by-turn basis if the AI finds it favorable. You could cancel it any time after 20 without incident, but the AI isn't going to tell you that you have a trade hanging out there that it is benefiting from. So the responsibility is yours to know when these deals end. That's where something like CivAssist comes in handy to alert you when deals are expiring.

There aren't many cases I can think of where you would renegotiate peace under favorable conditions, then find yourself on the short end 20 turns later. Generally worst case after 20 you will only renew the peace straight up. This can happen if you get pulled into a lot of wars over that span.

Can you put up a save?

We should have cannons and some cavalry on hand. Our only purpose is to take Jerusalem adn get Rome into war with Japan, and then sue for peace and tech after twenty turns. If you think you can set us up to accomplish that, don't cave, ,ake an alliance with the Japanese and take Jerusalem instead.

I stopped at turn 9 because I have to get ready for work and I didn't want you guys to have to wait anymore, plus I'm afraid of screwing something up:blush:

#0 1250 AD Offered Japan some of our dyes in order to reduce our trade deficit with them. Cut our 26gpt ivory deal with them almost in half; they offered 16gpt for some dyes
#1 1255 AD Renegotiated Ivory deal with Japan when it expired this turn(keep in mind we're getting 16gpt from them now). We were able to pick up Ivory and an ally in our planned war against Rome. Japan gave Ivory for a MPP, ROP and 28gpt
#2 1260 AD Continuing improvements in North and the Core. Checking cities for room to make tax collectors where feasible.
#3 1265 AD same, still no luck on getting steam power
#4 1270 AD ....
#5 1275 AD Upgraded knights from Albuquerque in KC and sent them back to Alb
#6 1280 AD Not much going on, tried a little micromanaging to help with growth or city production
#7 1285 AD Retasked a few of our workers in the north to join some of the cities in the former Greek territory to get them to population 3 and hired some tax collectors
#8 1290 AD Romans demand Wines from us, we decline, and of course, they declare War on us. Our Allies, the Japanese immediately declare war on the Romans as well. Romans attack Springfield from Jerusalem and fail, and a new great military leader appears in Springfield to aid us in the coming struggle.

Couldn't seem to wrangle Steam Power from anyone. Jerusalem of course, should be our main target priority. Albequerque has been reinforced with cavalry and some cannons, we should be able to take Jerusalem without excessive casualties.

Also, most of our land seems to have been improved with the exception of a few areas around Residueville in the core, so should we maybe think about using some of our excess workers to build Pop in some of our cities?

Nice, verra nice. One regiment of cavalry, just what we need.

juballs2001 - pin 'em. Take Jerusalem. Then go drive the Chinese off the island.
Bede - on deck
SpikeIt - got a peaceful set for once
azzaman - skip to my lou
residuetiger - did okay. got a leader but I am a little concerned about the MPP. That could bite us if Toku gets to feeling his oats.

Nice job Residue! Performed the upgrades and got us the Roman war. China should be pulled in shortly too if I remember our history correctly. :hammer:

I guess I'm just confused. This was brought up because if we give peace for gpt, after 20, the AI will renegotiate it again tying you into another 20 turns of peace (assuming you keep the peace, if you will). That was my original point. If you had auto renegotiate on, its the same difference, no? Either way, if you choose to keep the peace, then its for another 20 turns.

Anyhow, as you mentioned, I too always have civassist running and watching for expired deals. Once they are expired, I can choose whether to renegotiate or nix the deal.

ok guys i got the save.... i will work on it tonight and post either tonight or tommorow morning

ok boys... i will also do 11 turns to make up for the one RT skipped, i started them and am about halfway through

k im done here is the log up to 1350AD

1290- Attack Jerusalem, China declares war with MPP pact with rome. Capture Jerusalem
1300- China declares war on Jap. Greece declares war on rome, and china on greece.
1305- England demands terr map and 59 gold, i agree. Vikings and Rome sign M.A against Greece.
1310- Macao Falls
1315- nothing much
1320- Vikings declare war on England
1325- no activity
1330- world is boring as greece shrinks to just 2 cities.
1335- Macao abandoned, Resource Stronghold created
1340- so bored.... micromanagement is exciting
1345- well we need to get some techs before greece becomes extinct. Sign M.A against China and Rome with Greece for P.P and Economics.
The same with Japan for Navigation
1350- Build colony of gems north of new city. Passin the turn on

- we cant do much else until we get choppers. just continue to build markets and libraries until we can.

I'm sure Bede would have pointed this out, but we are giving the English three luxuries in exchange for one. That is not good.

Bede's got it. Looks like we finally have a World War on our hands. Good.

Snce I think I'm the guy who made those deals with England I have no comment  The nice part about them is the English make a nice scientific counterweight to the Romasn and the Japanese.

Get steam and work the rails if we have coal. If not then try and trade for some. Newark with the FP is in a position to be a very powerful city. If we can get a factory there soon and rail the worked tiles we may be in a good position to do a pre-build for the ToE.

I am going to need another 36hrs to get these turns done. Too much work
