SGOTM8 - Bede

well done guys... and welcome aboard M60.

man i cannot wait until we bring the battle overseas, then i will shine... warmongering is my time boys... keep up the tech pace and i say we dont steal until the modern age or even later as we should probably shoot for modern infantry and continue the wipeout we have started.

good luck and keep it up guys!

IBT- China and Scandinavia sign an embargo against us
1 1705-Rome enters modern times. Scandinavia will give 2 towns for peace with us. not taken at this time.
2 1710- Another english galleon comes, but the artys blow it away.
3 1715- Pollution cleared, bomb a few ships.
4 1720- Bomb some ships
5 1725- Bomb some english ships and some english land. flight just 2 turns away.
6 1730- Plant a spy in Rome, steal Mass Production from them. They have 133 infantry  and we bomb more english stuff.
7 1735- Learn flight, change prebuilds to bombers, no sci getting motor transport in 13 at approx 300 gpt.
IBT- Ragnar wants peace, i tell him id rather eat my shoes.
8 1740- An english raiding party consisting of 2 infantry and a cavalry are destroyed, our bombers have arrived.
9 1745- bomb some more stuff
10 1750- bomb more, and more, and destroy tromso's harbor.

Ragnar is taking heavy losses to ceaser.we're 10 turns from motor trans, less if we get the money to steal.

Good job with the stealing. :goodjob:

It would have been better to discuss taking the deal with Ragnar for two towns. He's not long for this world (no big secret since given who he is fighting), and now he only has big towns left which he definitely won't part with.

I took a quick look at the save and want to point out that doing the math is also part of playing the game well. We have Washington and Newark that produce over 50 shields a turn each building fighters that cost 80 shields. That means they are delivered every two turns which would normally be ok. But Resiopolis only generates 48 shields and is building a bomber which is 100 shields. So that city wastes 44 shields every 3rd turn. Bottom line is our top two shield producers should stick to 100 shield bombers or tanks as appropriate. They are the only towns we have that can deliver 100 shield units in 2.

RT, you're up!

ummm i agree with M60... its 4:35 here, i say if we dont here from him by tonight, we go next in line..

Honestly, he's way past the 48 hour turn around and didn't ask for an extension. To keep the game moving, I'd say its okay to take it already.

juballs - take it away

I'll figure out the rest of the roster later. I haven't been up to my usual standard of water beetle herding lately, sorry for the lapse.

So what's going on here? Is everyone firing up their copies of Civ 4 already?

Here's the roster:
M60 -
azzaman - Last played
residuetiger - skipped
juballs2001 - UP
Bede - on deck
SpikeIt -

Dont talk to me about Civ4. I cant even buy it until 3rd Nov...

 Just think. One week later will just mean one week closer to a patch coming out. You wouldn't want to play with a buggy piece of software, would you? ;)

I can't play until the week-end (way too much time schlepping books around) so if Spike can play I can grab it on Saturday...

Aand if anyone else wants to take a whack, post a got it and go and take as many turns as you are comfortable with.

I am only into one other SG and am not grabbing Civ 4 right away, so can jump in just about any time. We need to get this game rolling again, it seems pretty clear from the other team graphs that we are about the only ones who remain confined to the homeland, except for maybe Team Obormot. And advanced flight is going to take a couple more sets to acquire. And we have to come up with a conquest strategy. And take on a powerful Rome who may well be nuking us by the time it's over.

One thing I would suggest we plan for is building airfields on the mountain tiles at the far north and south that cannot be used by cities for production. We are going to need them as staging areas once we are ready to airlift units into captured cities.

I'll probably pick this up tonight. I'll likely only squeeze in 5 turns before I finish play though. My little Viking's 2nd birthday is this weekend meaning 1) lots to prepare for at home and 2) wife is on high anti-civ alert due to #1. #2 wasn't helped by the fact I mentioned Civ 4 would be showing up today at our doorstep courtesy of Fedex. Anyhow, I should be able to play a few.

I'm really going to have to start looking this game over closely. I've never really played a conquests game that went this far into the modern age (lack of games overall due to time...). Regarding M60's comments on airfields - if they are build on a tile, they replace the improvements? That would explain his reasoning. How many worker turns does it take to build one? We'll want to make sure we have the workers and helicopters to drop the right size crew to make airfields overseas in 1 turn.

Is that all we have to do, M60? :D

Airfields replace the improvementsexcept roads and consume one worker but build in one turn. Just make sure you build on a roaded tile, otherwise you lose the movement point to make the drop. And if you are using paras make it a railroaded tile otherwise they can't jump on the movement turn, IIRC.

umm... so am i up... i thought i posted got it at work... but i guess i closed the window... umm i have already started and am 2 turns in... i can finish the rest tommorow and will post that night if i am still playing this turn set
