Turn 5 – 50 BC - Continued
We end the alliance w/ Alex.
OK, Mao will give up Tatung, Monarchy and a worker. That’s as good as it gets.

Great Tatung has BH’s hanging around. Alex has 80 g in the bank.

IBT: China and Greece make peace. BH’s take 17g. Time to run our treasury down. Way too expensive to buy a spear.

Turn 6 – 30 BC
Still can’t rush a spear in Tatung and am trying to burn what’s in the bank on research. Hire scientists where it does not impede our production.
Entertainment is at 20%

IBT: Lost another 5g.

Turn 7 – 10 BC
WST grows to 7 and can get 15spt. Switch to a Lib.

IBT: BH’s burn us for a few more gold.

Turn 8 – 10 AD
MM a few cities for optimum shields on libs and getting a few more scientists.

IBT: No BH’s but they are there on the boarders.

Turn 9 – 30 AD
OK, I’m making an all out push to keep us broke and max out our research for Mono ASAP. At the moment I see a bigger immediate need for a tech monopoly than I do horses to attack Mao in 20 turns.

IBT: Japanese have finished the SoZ

Turn 10 – 50 AD
OK, there are some worker moves left.
We’re at 10% entertainment w/ many specialists.
The upside is that we have 7g in the bank and running a -2g cash flow w/ Mono in three turns. Nobody else has it at this time. I advocate keeping us in this research mode to get the monopoly and then pull in Feud, Engineering and gold. Lizzy and Alex have gold.

I looked at the save and England somehow has all 3 MA 1st tier techs. They aren't even scientific.

Also there is up to a 2.7-5.4% chance that Walnut Bowls will flip. Get those units over there ASAP. also HJ has a 1.2-2.6% chance of flipping. I'd split the units up to lower that chance that they'd flip.

And how did England start in the jungle and are now a powerhouse? Do we not have a map from Rome? could we possibly trade world maps with Caesar?

I cycled through all the AI's and didn't see Mono. I don't know how I overlooked England. Maybe I didn't recheck on turn 10? Check to see if it gets spread around on turn 1.

Didn't think about the flipping issue. Preoccupied w/ Beijing. Good catch.

So, keep researching Mono for three more turns at breakneck pace or put our scientists back to work gathering food and up the entertainment slider?

We might be able to get Mono from England cheap, since we're almost there. If so, it would make sense to trade for it and sell it around for Engineering and whatever else we can get. Otherwise, keep researching at breakneck speed and hope we can get (and trade) it before everybody else has it.

I'd go with the buy and get Engineering option. Sounds most logical since the AI will trade it among themselves before next winter.

I doubt the EMP AI will keep that tech around long enough for us to research it - that is, if England lacks any other tech. If Betty needs a tech or if anyone has cash, we're done. Else, and if it is out of price, we could take the researching gamble.

England somehow got Eng, Fued, & Mono. No telling what else. Let's try to buy it & sell it around. I had forgotten about the discount you get if you had been researching it.

What I thought is perhaps, say, Rome could have gotten Invention, and Englad could be inclined to trade for it. That'd hypothetically force the trade between Betty and Julius to be faster, Mono to get cheapoer and traded around quicker.

preflight - change Tatung from spear to warrior

70 - drop science to 20%

90IT - Mono in. Greece and Japan have it now too. Julius wants Mono, wM, 37 gpt and all our gold (40) for Feudalism. so, trade him Mono, WM, 2gpt for engineering. Start Feudalism.

110 - buy wine from alex for WM, dyes, 6gpt. MM. Feud in 14 @ -1gpt.

Worker moves for the most part. Tatung warrior went exploring. Built some infrastructure.

So ... more libs I guess. Too bad we'll still have to catch up on engineering to get invention, that might tip the scales against us a bit for the next invasion. China won't have iron though, so no problem from the pikemen part, fortunately ...

Got it. Building stuff I presume as we have 20-turn deals going with both our neighbours.

I noticed some Viking cities on our neighboring islands. Should we start a war with them?

see my post, I bought engineering. BTW, fuedalism is due in 4 or 5 IIRC. We can make a run accross the bottom of the tech tree and pointy stick our way back.

Not unless Ragnor is as far behind as I think he is. don't wanna see our cities falliing to Zerks.

Sorry I just checked it and realised my brain totally farted. I must have had a seizure of some kind, or perhaps my brain took a quick leap into the 4th dimension. At any rate, I was seriously positive in my belief you didn't get jack for Monotheism ...

I almost screwed up. I posted this in TR05. It's a good thing that nobody reads that. Luckily it was on an edit and didn't go out on instant notifications....

We have 5 turns left of peace with Mao. He has 5 total cities (2 continental cities and 1 on the little island near ours and another over by Tatung). There is also one that we can't see yet. Is this force being assembled for another assault on Beijing??

That 21 stack of units has 9 cats, 5 vet horses, 4 vet archers, 1 elite archer, & 2 vet spears. Should we go after Mao after the 5 turns of peace is over? Definately don't take Nanking. If that is his capital then we don't want it on an oversea location correct?

I'm running Offa's city capture simulator & putting a couple extra spears in there for good measure....and hopefully this time it won't lead us down the wrong path...

Never mind. ... With a couple extra spears (on top of what jb reported at the end of his assault) we only stand a 3.5 % chance of taking the city. That taint too good.
