SGOTM8 - Cutlery

Those ponies and archers need something to do though. I think that that horse production needs to stop and start producing archers. They'll upgrade to longbows for 60G and are cheaper to produce. We could get the GL in WSton in 26 turns. Is that worth a gamble??

I think that it is a go.. In a few more turns we'll have Fuedalism and then Invention after that. So if we get beat then we could get another wonder or a library at worst.

Also bump the SCI slider to 30%. It'll shave a turn off Fued and only lose 20G

No way. Even if we do get the GL, which is sort of doubtful at this point, we're too close to Education to be worth the effort. Heck, we might even have Edu in 26 turns, if the AI picks that research path.

I agree with building archers instead of horses, so we can upgrade to longbows. Having an attack of 4 instead of 2 should make a big difference at Beijing.

And don't forget that we can investigate Beijing to see exactly how many defenders it has, rather than just trying to guess. We should probably do that before we declare war.

Also, do we want to consider attacking Greece instead of China? Mao has been cut back quite a bit and basically just has Beijing to offer, so attacking Greece might gain us more. On the other hand, it'll probably be harder, especially if Alex develops Chivalry in the near future. So I don't know which would be better. But we should at least think about other options, rather than just get hung up on taking Beijing.

But I don't think declaring war on Ragnar is a good idea. Even if he doesn't have Zerks yet, how are we going to do enough damage to get him to cough up a city in the peace talks?

Talking of Chivalry, how 'bout going for the Knights Templar? 300 shields gets us a nice supply of 5-3-1 units that will be useful in our current situation. I'd start a pre-build this turnset, as Chivalry will be around by the end of the next 20 or so turns.

Start the pre-build (Forbidden Palace) in WFCity? If we miss it, then the FP could be built. If not then we could get KT. HG is 22 more turns in WFCity and that ought to be just about right for getting it via trade or should we research it ourselves?

not going for the GL is understandable. Will the AI build an obsolete wonder? I wonder if we could hold off on it and build it after it's expired for everyone else.

I started the FP early in my turns, I think in WFCity (almost 30 turns ago now). Or did somebody change it?

KT is a good idea, now that you mention it. That's one wonder that rarely even crosses my mind, for some reason, but it would be very useful here.

No idea if the AI will build obsolete wonders. But what are you suggesting? Deliberately hold back once everybody else has Education, just so we can build the GL? I'm not sure that would be a good idea, even if it worked, and if it failed it would be a disaster.

Well not hold back but just don't research education....

WFCity does indeed have the FP almost up.... 6 more turns. Hopefully we can buy Chivalry from someone after Fued is finished. Or we could just switch it to Sun Tsu's in order to get time before we get Chilvary.

Well, we need the FP, too. I'd be inclined to just let it finish and either start another prebuild somewhere else, or start one in WFCity after the FP.

I still don't think trying to get the GL is worth the effort. Best case scenario, it'll give us, what, two or three techs? And at the cost of a lot of shields we could put to use building longbows. Besides, I still think the AI will get to it first.

It's not really necessary to make a decision right now, though. We can always start a KT prebuild, then see where we stand in 15 or 20 turns.

But researching Gunpowder after Invention, then going for MT (assuming we have saltpeter) and skipping the upper branch for now might not be the worst idea in the world anyway. I think we do need to secure our continent before we can go into real serious research mode.

Well the first thing I'm going to do is BUY Feudalism from someone for Mono. China or Vikes will cough. No point hanging around - they'll learn it in time! I'm not touching the GLib.

Yep that what I thought was going on. Trade for Chivalry while going the low road & clearing our continent of the hoodlems.

PHVille can complete the 300 shields for KT in 29 turns. (Although it is 10 shields-> 2 turns away from completing a library) That should be good enough. No one else has started it yet correct?

I've come around on no GL. Sorry for the stray thought....

Lizzie has Invention (monopoly), so I'm going for Theo (not Chiv) due to it leading to PP which will make a good monopoly for us.

Hey with this post we should be now tied with Team tao in total posts (they also have 140 turns palyed).

What does PP get us besides a monopoly? What does it lead to? What is enabled by it? I've never researched PP so I don't know what it is worth.

Forget: GLib (London), Sun Tzu (York), and worse: KT (Japan). Now up to a 6.7% chance of taking an un-bombarded Beijing. Still going for Theo. Still chucking horses out of London. (Beijing has, at 300AD, 3 Elite + 2 Vet spears.)

Still chucking horses out of London
huh?? Do you mean WSton or did you investigate Lizzy?

Umm, I meant WSton, of course. I have London on the brain, seeing as I'm living there right now and it just built something.

>>> The Save <<<

Highlights, of which there are few:
0 250 Mono gets Feud+WM+7g from Ragnar. Lizzie has Invention so I start to burn on Theology. It's a 50-50, but Theo leads to PP which should be good for a monopoly. Sell the WM around for a few coins. Rush the warrior in Tatung to at least give us a chance against the barb horses lined up outside it. We have less workers at 250AD than Wacken did at 1000BC. Change HTJ to a rax and rush it. Change Walnut to a rax as well, but no rush as I'm out of cash.

IT: Rome builds the GLib, so nipping that particular idea in the bud. London cascades to the HG.

1 260 IT: York gets Sun Tzu  Osaka cascades… to KT :gripe:

7 320 IT: Lizzie has Theology.

Couple of pics, both relating to the China situation:
