SGOTM8 - Cutlery

I hope & pray that Alex doesn't have any peter (salt that is). If he does, trebs are a must.

BTW, I switched WSTon to a 2 turn treb pump instead of a horse pump. A stack of 20 trebs WILL bring Alex to his knees city by city. In 13 more turns......

This is a very wise move. Planning for the need to bombard will help us if it turns out that Alex really does have a peter.

[EDIT: man, I'm writing as I go up the thread only to find out I'm a bit behind the times.]

I'm looking forward to see a bit of blood spilling all over the place

Not so bad going, TR, riots and a tech aren't decisive, but Beijing was. Btw the hidden cat would have been one that's been renamed I guess, so, my bad

Has a FP build been started yet? I think this should be of concern during your turns SW.

The FP is in WFCity

For everyone's benefit......

Delta company = Archers/longbows
Echo Company = cats/ trebs
Foxtrot Company = horses/cavs <- we're not getting knights

If you see one that's not named or make one on your turn then I'd try to rename them to keep them in order and not loose one like I did.

Oh. I PM'ed Alan to ask about the spoiler thread.

He said that if we know all of the AI's world maps, then we're ok. Even though there is a black patch NE of our home. Can anyone confirm this. I only got China's WM when peace was started 5 turns ago.

Territory graph....We're the bright green line with the big upshot last go round

Klarius & wacken must be on a different continent by now fighting over there.

Soul, you can't fight Alex unless he declares. We have 13 more turns of a lux deal.

I looked at your save. Should be no issue even if you cant see that section yet, you do have pretty much same map knowledge as all the AIs together.

Good job on the war, Tubby. Good thing you didn't listen to me about attacking Beijing. :) That was awfully close, though... attacking with spears?

Tubby said:

Not necessarily. Taking Greece is probably enough additional territory to account for the difference.

Or we could just not give units confusing names in the first place.... I know last time around I had to look at the units' values rather than their names to keep from losing track of them (and that one catapult was particularly confusing). The Delta/Echo/Foxtrot thing will work for now, but what about when we start upgrading?

Agree that we should attack Alex as soon as practical. It'll probably take us those 13 turns to build up our forces sufficiently anyway.

attacking with spears?
Yeah I was scared but I couldn't let it continue to stand while I still had attacks that could have taken the city. After the first spear failed. I thought surely 2 spears wouldn't die. Luckily I wasn't thinking clearly :crazyeye:

450ad-550ad

preturn- since were havimg a peaceful period now switch a couple of builds to libs.
glance at the minimap, thats one yummy island on our east. with a dentist watching from the west

1- WSTon treb > treb, WoodenKnife aqua > treb, LawnGuy harbor > treb,
spot that lonesome settler  well, we have a tiny gap, might as well plop there, as corruption is rapant over there anyways.

2- PartyHardy archer > market, HorseTooth archer > archer,
lower sci to 10 netting 48g.

3- PP in > INV in 7.
WoodenSpoon treb > treb, Pearlton aqua > harbor,
walnut riots. no more trusting CA2.
walnut gets all of ECHO company inside (as i think we will be going for Athens first, and it has a rax for upgrades)
upgrade an echo.
PP bait - england gets it for Education and 140g,
invention is too bloody expensive, and banking is WAY out of our league.
decide to hold ontoo the cash s we can upgrade and make some more deltas.

IBT- our offshore account gets embezzled by some white collared brigands.

4- WoodenSpoon treb > treb, Coloured Cuts temple > treb,
ragnar drops his asking price for Inv from Dyes, 180g and theo to 55g + theo....
since no cash to upgrade now, and enough archers to upgrade, take the deal and lower sci a notch.
sell him PP for his cash (and ours) 68g and both maps.
stasrt on guns.
upgrade 3 echoes.
build Stoopido > worker,

5- WoodenSpoon treb > treb, Anyang worker > treb, change LawnGuy to an aqua,

6- too many unhappy faces force me to up lux.

7- WoodenSpoon treb > uni, WoodenKnife treb > LB,

IBT- Inchin In are now Crawling backwards to avoid my fury. (flip)
english are getting Coper's

8-that flip actually saves us 3 gpt...

IBT - japs want to exchange maps for cash. no thanks.

9- Beijing worker > worker, Idiot Academy court > harbor (might aswell get them specialists in), Wooden Fork lib > harbor, Salad Fork temple > treb,

10- Chicago lib > LB, Pseudo greek court > treb,
Tatung grows to 2, and demands a beaker, which will starve it next turn.

guns in 5, making 9gpt.
walnut has 13 woodchucks (about 8 trebs) and 5 deltas (archers)
Alex HAS CHIVALRY NOW.

its not a very sharp axe, but the comandant will do just fine.

So we're on the cusp of Invention and have amassed more than a couple tree-buckets.

Upgrading archers will likely require us to pull back on research. If we fall too far back and don't take down Alex then our unit support is going to keep us from becoming a researching juggernaught.

What are the estimates of the needed forces to get medieval on Alex's saltpeter?

Order of battle, unhooking resources, etc.?

My monkeys are working overtime on this one burning the banana from both ends and throwing the feces extra hard at the walls.

as far as i recollect, (and that was 3  and 2 Gins away) the greeks had about 6 cities before we got a shot at the iron.
lets presume 3 defenders per town = 18 offenders on our side. assuming the tree chuckers reduce that by 1/3 then we lose 10-12 units.
considering we can produce about 2 per turn, i think were doing good.

we DO need to cut our sci for a few turns (3 sounds right) so we can afford to upgrade.
i think we only need about 300-350g for a total upgrade path.
anyway - wait till you upgrade everything b4 you attack,

God I'm up in 45 SG's, this'll have to wait for, well, next week I think. Been busy, couldn't catch up as much and got myself way down.

I'll make sure it's worth the wait when I get it.

There's only about a zillion ways to write this up but here's my first shot.

Feel free to laugh, cry, critique, and/or blast it.

Input welcome and no offense taken as none was intended.

@ jb - that is a masterpiece :band:  :rotfl:

I hope I haven't doomed us with careless mousing - IIRC, I looked at the spoiler thread without asking alanh.

now i have to go back and read to figure out what's really happened ;)

@ jb - very entertaining :goodjob:, but a little short on actual information. At the very least, you should probably include some more detail on the wars with China.

I'm pretty sure you're OK. IIRC, we're allowed to look at the spoiler thread freely once we meet the requirements (which we do); we just can't post there until somebody writes up an official spoiler.

Looks good :goodjob: Now all we need are some top-class images to complement the story! Now I know a guy who knows a guy and he used to know this couple who made these films and they had contacts... oh, hang on, screen captures from the game.

Yes, A-K, MM's right. I just asked Alan because of the vague requirement of "must know the AIs' world maps". I'm not sure you can know that unless you buy everyone's map or know the entire map. That's why I asked.

Gyathaar looked at our save and said that we're kosher.

@ jb, Great job on the write-up. The only thing that I would add to eldar's comment is to make the headings bold. Also there is that reference to the Exlax joke. (I usually leave comments like that in there and forget about them.) Otherwise :goodjob: Post it when you're ready.

indeed...

but what about the (mis)adventures of Sgt Kill Maim?
what about the glorious and fully wooden spoonish siege of beijing?
