*cough* Sorry, got caught up in the prevailing spirit.
@jb - researching techs the AI doesn't have is usually a reasonable idea, but I don't think it should be the sole determining factor in what we go for. For example, I was a little distressed to see us keep picking upper tier techs when we had a crying need for better military units than archers and horses.
Re: Mao - kill him, or at least boot him off our continent. I don't see any benefit in keeping him around.
Re: Alex - reduce him as far as possible, but keep him around at least into the IA so we can trade for the free tech. Then boot him off our continent (if we haven't done so already).
Re: iron - of course we want it. We need it to build railroads, if nothing else. (Of course, that assumes we have coal, which would normally be a reasonable assumption, but I've learned not to underestimate the sadism of the (S)GOTM map designers.) If nothing else, it would make our lives easier if Alex doesn't have it.
Re: wonders - I think this is something we should start discussing. Weren't we originally thinking about a wonder-fuelled golden age sometime in the IA, around the time we develop flight? I don't have any particular thoughts on the issue at the moment, but it's worth pointing out that we have an industrious wonder (the Pyramids) already.

transporting settlers? never hears of this stratagem.
I think the theory is that when a unit gets kicked out of enemy territory, it can occasionally end up in strange places. Once in a while you see a galley booted entirely across an ocean just because that's the nearest unclaimed area. So in theory it might be possible to have a settler booted to another island.
And since we haven't had one of these in about three pages,
