SGOTM8 - Cutlery

I actually use thick slices of sarcasm. Take the tone of the spoiler and multiply by 10.

I agree to stay at war for the time being but WW will become an issue so reduce the population by whatever means (workers, settlers, starvation, or combo) and garrison to the level indicated by MapStat or another tool.

Techs - It's OK, not great but OK, if we're behind. Remember, Diplo and Space are turned off. We just want to get to Copters quickly and efficiently to unload holy heck on our buddies over the dreaded water.

It's better to finish the Alexectomy so we can reduce unit costs and go headlong into techs (research, steal, trade).

Alexectomy - Oxymoronically precise and surgical yet indelicate and violent.

MM, can you upload the save to the server so that we can look at it?

hey!!! Did you rename it first?
 No, I just razed Inching in. But referring to it as TF is more fun.

On China: we currently have no WW. So I guess we can stay at war for now.

Well, reducing the Chinese population in Beijing is tricky... only 2 or so of the 7 citizens are Chinese. Is there a guaranteed way to get rid of the foreigners? I think starving or building a worker would pick a citizen at random.

Oh, and CAII says that we need a garrison of 25 or so units to prevent Beijing from flipping, which clearly isn't going to happen. But some of that is due to Greek cultural pressure.

OK, I'll attach the save.

The next worker will be the last one added. I agree get settlers out of there (to repopulate the Greko-land) and then re grow.

Thanks for the save.

A garrison of 25 is a bit pricey.

If that number doesn't go down to about 1 once the Alexectomy is complete then let me pose this question.... If we raze Beijing do we lose the free granaries?

I know once Temple of Artemis is obsolete the free temples vanish (at least that's what happened to me) but have not seen the same happen w/ the destruction/loss of the Pyramids.

@MM, Tubby's Folly... very funny...

We'll have to address this in the next spoiler since we indicated that it was soon to come back into the fold and not flattened.

jb, loss of pyramids bvia capture or destruction causes all granaries not hand-built to vanish.

Also Temple of Artemis gives free temples not the Knight's Templar ;)

@jb - yes, we lose the free granaries. That doesn't happen unless the Pyramids are lost/destroyed, since they never become obsolete.

We'll have to address this in the next spoiler since we indicated that it was soon to come back into the fold and not flattened.
Well, it was crowding all the other cities in the vicinity. Besides, Alex is quite a bit more cultured than we are, so I think raze and replace is the way to go (especially since we won't be able to get rid of him entirely).

On Beijing: I'm not sure I see the point in trying to reduce its population, as I believe it only has two Chinese citizens right now. Since those will probably be the last to go, we can, with a lot of effort, reduce it to one Chinese citizen. Not really worth it, IMO. Besides, it will always be a flip risk (due to culture pressure from Tientsin) until we build some culture there (which might not be a bad idea).

I belive the current chance of Beijing flipping is on the order of 1%, and that's with quite a bit of pressure from Greece. Once Shanghai and Thermopylae are dealt with, it should go down (it already has, a bit; it was about 4% before Inching in was removed).

With only two Chinese citizens out of 7 it isn't worth it to get to one because they will be the last to go.

Razing is bad. Agree culture needed.

Temple of Artemis - Temples, Ka-Nigits Templar - Crusaders, got it... :)

We still need to malign someone over the loss of "Inching In" (a.k.a. TF). Let's blame the Canadians.

So you're in favor of trying to hold the Greek cities? Not really sure that's practical (though we might make an exception for Athens...are there any useful wonders there?).

Let's see... Inching in was lost due to our neighbors to the north, who are more cultured than we are, but are quietly sitting and waiting for us to come and slaughter them. Yep, sounds like the Canadians to me.

I think that jb was talking about razing & replacing Beijing

correct....SPAM

It pains me to say that both Tubby and SW are correct. :p Besides, an Alexectomy is a complete and total extraction.

Any speculation on the failure of Alex to mount a worthy counter-attack? I thought we were weak to average compared to the mighty Geeks?

Very, very good. More spoiler fodder.

I have been pulling out info and putting it into a Word document as an outline for the next spoiler and so far it's about 50% foolishness, 40% noteworthy events, and 10% total nonsense. BTW, this outline is for whomever would like a crack at the next spoiler.

And on a final note... I'm disappointed that other than us and Tao (I think  ) there have been no more postings to the spoiler thread.

I love those jokes about canadians, I so do not feel canadian myself.
I'm not sure about the random citizen picked for a settler/worker out of Beiujing though, please confirm.

X-post: if you ever link it (the outline), I'd like to try my hand at the next spoiler, and it would surely help.

And indeed, I don't think there's anything wrong with giving out info, heck, it's not a huge competitive battle or anything now is it?

I've been wondering that myself. I spent quite a while worrying and positioning our troops to try to be ready for a Greek counterattack, and it just didn't happen. So far all I've seen is a stray archer that had been hanging around Pharsalos and one longbow in the north. I honestly don't know where the Greek military is. Maybe they also lost it all against the walls of Beijingrad?

Also, Alex has only had two turns to move since war was declared, so it's possible that there are still troops coming from the north.

For some, it is. But I think it's probably just too much trouble to write a good spoiler for most to bother.

Or maybe they just don't want to look bad in comparison to JB's masterpiece. :)
