SGOTM8 - Cutlery

for the scroll challenged

Roster:

eldar
Tubby Rower
soul_warrior
Beorn -
Minute Man - just hurled some stones at alex, and stubbed his toe.
jb1964 - up, throwing Alex out of our crib.
A-K - on deck

That went well ! It looks like they should learn some guerilla warfare tricks from the chinese: they just totally blew it. I take it the counterattack is now more disorganised than our troops are, and seeing that redlined MDI, we probably have time to re-organise before another round of whack-a-greek.

Couldn't resist but add a post here...
Hope you guys get the spam laurel you are after... We tried, but i am afraid we are out of competition and you can keep going. :D

Next player: burn more Geek cities, get settlers forward to fill in the gaps.

@dman - presumably your game is over....

Gotta love how short, precise and concise you are, Eldar.

The settlers bit is important, esp from our island holdings. Every city we found will bump up our gpt by 5.

I've just had a peep at the save, and have a couple of things to point out.
1. Why Metallurgy? Physics would've been a monopoly, certainly netting banking, probably metallurgy as well. Will we be landing cavalry with our 'copters? Or infantry & artillery?
2. Don't bother with MT. We don't need it to kill off Alex, and it'll be outdated when we do go toe-to-toe with the rest.
3. Washington can be bumped up to 20spt, probably, with some creative MMing and tile improvement.

At the time, it looked like we could get a monopoly on Metallurgy. And I thought we might end up needing cavalry to deal with Alex (this was before I even started the war). But you're right, Physics probably would have been a better choice.

Marines won't help since naval invasions won't be a issue in this game.

But they do attack harder, and have a decent enough defense.

I should start playing this evening since the wife will be at a PTO meeting.

PTO ... Play The Office expansion pack? Play against the commercial-expansionnist Boss, with UU: Human Ressources Assistant, 15-8-1 amphibious, airdrop and stealth attack, treats all terrain as road, available at The Corporation ...

I don't see why not.... We can keep the spam rolling while we wait

I forgot that I have a Swim Board Meeting this evening so I might not make the progress I thought I would.

I'm not worried about out-doing Wacken on the Spam Laurels since they should be finished weeks before us.

Has anyone given a look as to possible paths of conqest? That is, I'm sure we can't get to England straight away so even though we might want to get to Lizzy as soon as possible it's just not going to go down that way.

Umm... Tanks have a higher offense & defense than Marines and cost 20 shields less and aren't acquired via (yet another) optional tech.

True. But, IIRC, we need pretty much all of the IA required techs to get Advanced Flight. So by the time we get helicopters, we'll be one tech from TOWs. At that point, why bother with Amphibious Warfare?

And even before we get TOWs, infantry will probably be enough to get the job done, if we build enough bombers to back them up.

Turn 0 – 750 AD
Thoughts: it would be nice to bring those spices back from the eastern island.

Brought Fox 6 (a.k.a. horsemen) our form Nanking to kill the 1hp MI.
Run MapStat for a look at happiness. We’re fine at the moment.
Forces need to heal and be grouped for the assault on Athens. Greek wine’s on the menu soon.
Builds are primarily LB’s which is fine until Alex’s butt is gone.
Sending workers to chop some jungle. It looks safe.
Both Rome and England have Metal and have no interest in trading it to us.

IBT: A Viking worker moved. Wow!
All builds repeats, a musket and 4 LB’s.
PHVille switched to settler.

Turn 1 – 760 AD
I’m going to bring the troops through the forest to the wine directly south of Athens. This makes any attack out of Sparta 6 tiles away. When Athen’s is razed we’ll settle immediately and connect the grapes.
WST can be MM’ed for 20 shields but not this turn. Currently up to 19. Chopping the forest.
Wbowls has cultural pressure so the forces stay put until we need to move them out.
Checked MapStat and found three unhappy cities, WST chief among them. Looks like 20 spt will require those wines.

IBT: Metal is in and Physics is next. English are building Magellan’s.

Turn 2 – 770 AD
First things first… Trading. Unfortunately, Metal is known by everyone but Ragnar.
Chemistry and Dyes to Ragnar for Banking.
Rome has Physics and Demo plus Chivalry and Nav. England has that plus MT.
Japan has Chivalry, Nav and Demo.
OK, we need to switch research to either Music or Econ.

Input please.
