This week I can only play Tuesday & Wednesday w/ an outside possibility of playing this evening. This brings great angst to my soul.

The upside is that my parents will be in town Thursday and they're bringing a .32 Winchester they picked up for me at an estate sale at a nice price. I'm teaching a rifle/shotgun safety class this month so now I have another prop.

I might very well be unavailable this week until thursday night. All yours jb.

It looks like 10 turns of Kicking Tokugawa's teeth in and playing it safe w/ Lizzy.

I'll secure the spices and see about putting some TOWs on the Japanese homeland. Excess tanks will stay at home until needed to cut of Lizzy's oil. To that end I'll hatch more airfeilds in the northern wastelands.

I would also like to have at least one TOW in our core coastal cities to discourage Lizzy from using her marines.

I'll research out Ecology at a pace that will allow us to bank some gold and get some "production" out of our markets and banks. Ah, the miracle of compound interest.

Hey, did anyone read Team Peanuts spoiler? They made it sound gloomy but all I kept seeing was "pop a goody hut - get a tech".

<<< The Save >>>
1450 AD
MM’ed in the North for workers, settlers and to finish up other builds for more workers and settlers. Core is MM’ed well. Pulled back research to increase overall income for rushing.

IBT: Ragnar wants to trade world maps. I give him 2g for his.
Japanese land a LB. I quake in my boots.
Nanking, market – worker (utterly corrupt, MM’ed w/ 6 scientists)
WKB, TOW– TOW
Idiot Academy, Bank – Stock Exchange (Don’t hire specialists here!)
WFC, TOW- TOW
Pearlton, marine – TOW
Lawn Guy, TOW– TOW
Delphi, library – worker
Dorothy, worker – worker (hire cops)
TR McCoy, worker - worker (utterly corrupt, cops no help, hire scientists)
Tundrastic, settler – worker (funny name, first I’ve noticed it.)

1455 AD
First things first… Chinan. The first TOW loses 3hp from the defending spear. The second TOW takes the city and puts an end to Mao.
I’m re-basing Washington w/ the thought of sending him to the Japanese mainland. Saving him for Lizzy will cost us too many GL opportunities at this point. (This changes later)
Found Pittsburgh on the southern Japanese tundra (oil) island.

Japanese LB killed w/ TOW.
Moving helo’s to positions to jump to spice island and Japanese mainland.
Short rush a TOW in Pseudo (vis Cav) since we only had one other unit coming in next turn.

IBT:
Japanese drop off four cavalry on “Bodo” Island.
Beijing, police - tank (Not a bad city now. 12spt)
Not Athens, worker – worker in 2 turns (hiring cops again)
WST, TOW – TOW
Pseudo, TOW – TOW
Herakleia, worker – worker
Lost our supply of wool.
Mine three irrigated tiles around Beijing and hire two cops for 17spt.

1460 AD
Sink three of four Japanese ships w/ arty, bomber and a fighter.
Rush a worker out of Tiensin.
Lift in 6 TOW’s just west of Anyang.
We take Bodo at the cost of a TOW and kill the four cavalry.
We destroy Tomso.
MM Pseudo for 30spt w/ a tile from Idiot Color.

IBT:
Chicago Cut, bomber – bomber
Tientsin, worker - worker

1465 AD
Tientsin gets an airfield.
Bomber kills a wounded Japanese frigate.
Bombers hit Anyang and three TOWs take the city w/ a harbor and barracks.
We take Shiminoseki. This is a nice jump site to the Japanese mainland.

IBT: OK, recoding all the builds is getting tedious.

1470 AD
Sink an ironclad.
We buy wool back from Caesar in the event that WW begins to set in.

1475 AD
Short rushed a number of units destined for Spice Island.
Killed off a few rifles dropped off by Chinan.

1480 AD
We take Matsuyama and have added spices to our kinkdom. :D
Brits have a heavily escorted galleon in our waters. This doesn’t look good. Must remember to sign up Alex to an MPP.
Fort the arty in Delphi.

IBT: Lizzy cancels our wines for 30gpt deal. Ok, we sell it back for 495g in the event she gets frisky. And then, um… she drops off three (3) TOW next to Mycenae. Time to talk to Alex.

1485 AD
Moving units around.
Make MPP w/ Alex.

IBT: Alex declares on the Japanese. And the English have declared war on us, therefore, the Greeks declare on the English. Doh! Time to destroy Cambridge.

1490 AD
We take Sopporo.
Scientists MM’ed for Ecology in 1.

IBT: Japan would like to talk. I’ll wait until WW is sucking to ruin our rep.
Rome and England have signed an alliance against Greece!
Ecology to Fission. :nuke: :nuke:

1495 AD
OK, now the fun begins. I give Caesar gems and he declares on Elisabeth.
Lay down some airfields and shift forces to a nice jump point to England. Washington, settler and a worker or two in the mix.
Short rush a few more TOWs.
We hop 3 TOW’s from Chinan towards Cambridge. They still have a bit of a trek
Oil.jpg

IBT: Scandinavia signs up w/ England vs. Rome.
We lost silks and furs from Rome but the people are quite happy about the war.

1500 AD
TOW’s move another tile towards Cambridge.

OK, we drop 15 TOW’s, Washington, a settler and a worker on the English main continent. Then we bomb out at least one railed road to our tile and go after the other but just manage to bruise an infantry. The hope here was to increase the possibility of survival for the settler and the worker/airfield. If Lizzy has half a brain she'll throw the kitchen sink at that stack.
Beachhead.jpg

There are five TOW’s sitting on airfields waiting for the next leader.
TOWs-a-Ready.jpg

War happiness doesn't seem to run too long. Keep an eye out for the need of luxes from Caesar.
And finally, the current state of diplomacy.
Diplomacy.jpg

I just noticed that I left the preferences on "Do not animate battles".

You can build airfields on mountains?! Never realised that before....

We could do with more bombers & tanks, so I'd switch all those 120-shield TOW builds to tank builds for shipping to the combat town.

Will 15 TOWs be enough (seriously...)? Try getting a spy with Lizzie, we'll have a better idea of her offensive capabilities.

I did go a bit overboard w/ the TOWs since our cities are producing 60, 40 and 30spt (plus a few). For all the 40+ shield cities you can go one turn, short rush a temple and then get the tanks on turn two.

I really hope 15 TOW's are enough 'cause they're already over there. :) What I don't think will be sufficient will be the three TOW's lumbering towards the English oil. It would have been better to either march in w/ tanks or to drop a smaller settler/worker/TOW package to a forward base and then pounce on the oil w/ another 'copter hop.

Should anything survive, found a city, build an army and either load it up w/ TOW or cover the worker for a turn to build an airfield and fly in a half-dozen tanks.

I didn't know you could put the airfields on the mountains either. I guess that's the Civ equivalent of Denver and La Paz (~2.2 mi above sea level)

nice.... don't forget about those outposts (or whatever they are). They provide Lizzy with a military advantage within I think 2 tiles

Any estimates on the number of turns we'll need to finish and what type of pace we'll need to keep to finish prior to November?

got it and playing now...

Ok played 6 turns and I need to go

The save from 1530

I've taken two English mainland cities. The 3 TOW's died. The small formerly Japanese Oil island is not entire ours any more. We've lost one of the cities and the English have planted a city there under my nose. I have a few tanks there and the Japs keep sending cavs to try to take it back...

England needs to be relieved of that Oil in the north. I might try to just send every thing I could at the Oil City and see if we can get it.

Whoever plays next needs to check for happiness.. There was one city that was causing trouble in the north and prolly needs a bunch of specialists.

I think the city is Dorothy.... It has a duct but no market. Don't mess w/ the market, just hire specialists and siphon off workers.

A brief summary.

I think we're being distracted by Toku right now. He's certainly draining some of our units away from Lizzie.

I say take peace with Toku, and get an MPP or MA vs. Liz as part of the bargain. He did have plenty of Cavalry to dump on us, so I don't see why they shouldn't be re-diverted "elsewhere".

As for Lizzie, we have two tasks:
1. Mainland rage & ruin. Just raze everything there, and colonise for luxes. Don't forget barbs will start to appear, a single TOW should be good enough to guard colonies though.
2. Oil Island - 2nd objective. Get bombers and tanks in to Chinan, and keep bombarding Cambridge and the road network round it. Do a gradual build-up of units; then move in and take out the cities one by one.

I think making peace w/ Toku will sink our rep. However, at this stage I don't see that it's that important. Also, we can still purchase luxes from Rome w/ techs or lump sums.

The bombers are very versatile. I think we should put a few more into the build plan and/or rush them. Bombing out the oil and the roads is a very good and simple ideal. If I had waited until there were enough tanks over there to march across the island it would have been far too long.
