SGOTM8 - Wacken

Looking good, Dman. I guess Grahamiam is up since Offa is AWOL for another week. And Wacken on deck.
Is it OK to continue settling according to my dot map? And watch out for Barbs coming from the SE.

Your dot map looks good and i don't see any objections to it and since i never heard any from G-Man or Xevious i decided just to follow the plan.

I don't see a good place for the future FP city though.
Maybe once we clean jungles there will be better spots.

Do we want to build Colossus? I reckon we do, since early fighting and having large army is not really an issue it would be nice to have this gold bringing wonder in a race for extra science. May be this 3rd city that next player will build next turn can start working on Colossus.
I haven't seen a single barbarian during my turns.
I reckon chinese warrior heading SE to those mountains took care of some of the barbs for us.
I wonder if there will be any trading possibily with Greece when we meet them next turn, i doubt it though.

Thank you very much.
I am always surprised at the order that people choose to do things in. Your second city would have probably been my 4th or 5th. I guess I just don't find floodplains too useful because I don't know how to use them properly . "It's the food, stupid!"

Hi there, i am back again. But still more dead than alive now. I will read trough tomorrow.

Wacken Open Air was :goodjob: again even though i have never seen so much rain and mud in my life :)

Happy that you guys made a 4 turn factory :)

About the dotmap, i am just not completely happy about the northwestern part, we need to use those coastal tiles there.

I would like to build the collosus, it will be very improtant, certainly if we later add the science wonders there. If we want to build it, we quickly need to utilise those 3 BG in the SW for 1 city so it can get a decent production.

If we move the western city next to that mountain one tile up NW, that would give acces to some more coast. It could also help our collosus city in corruption rank i think. The corruption in that city that has acces to the BG worries me for building the collosus.
With the collosus in mind, that city should have been the first site to settle IMO.

Moving the western most dot one NW would really weaken that city. It would go from being able to work 3 FP and one river plains, to having a single FP to work along the river. Not a good bargain in my opinion. And the plains would be left without being worked by any city. I would really like it to be able to work at +5 fpt. As would New York and Washington. Having three +5fpt locations are a strong position for us. Moving as you suggest would leave us with just 2.

North of the mountains we need to discuss thing a bit more. Just put down two possible locations. But in the immediate area around Washington I do believe all locations suggested are our best choice. We could put a location on the southwesternmost plains when we have chopped that forest. That would make it possible to work all those sea tiles. I just wanted us to put New York and the other western cities so they both gave +5 fpt. And by chopping forests around New York we will soon have both Granary and culture there.

Ok about the city placement. I always look more at a macro way, looking to use as many tiles as possible etc, not so much at the individual cities.
I guess using more coastal tiles requires an extra city. But that is pretty difficult to place.

If we go for that collosus, we really should work hard for it i fear. We need to use all workers we can to mine those BG's and depending on when the AI starts building it, we might also need to join some worker(s) to the city.

I had another look at the latest save and opened F11. Japan is the sixth opponent! We now know all our opponents and three of them start with Alphabet, England, Greece and Scandy. Actually being able to pull off the republic gambit by going CoL/Philo might be less than likely in this game? So do we still try it or do we go directly to philo when Writing is done?

Tough decision... AIs research usually sucks on Archipelago map and republic slingshot is doable even in situation like this when everyone starts with alphabet

Well, China and Greece know each other, right? Let's see what we have when we finish researching Writing. If we are up on both, then I vote we try the slingshot.

Is that a got it, Grahamiam? ;) Offa is away for another week so you are up and Wacken is on deck. It should be fairy quickly done since the only thing you really need to worry about is MMing Washinton to keep it running smoothly as a 4 turn factory.

And getting that colossus started !!!

Yes! There it will have access to at least 3 BGs, possibly 4 if the forest reveals a BG after it has been chopped to benefit the city we place at the "gates" to the barbarian hordes. ;)

And all efforts need to be done for that city. Do not delay mining those BG's.
Feel free to build a worker from the nearest city to join it there.
:p

failing to complete it probably equals losing the game. (although we failed to complete wonders before still won the sgotm :D)

Preflight check: nada

T1: 2510BC Found Boston -> warrior; Meet Greece, we are up CB, down Wheel and WC. Sell CB for 45g. Crank up research to 70%, to shave a turn off 1T on Writing (down to 11turns)

IBT: Washington settler -> settler; New York warrior -> worker

T2: 2470BC Run the settler to the Colossus spot. Also move the worker from NY to go down there. Futz with sliders

T3: 2430BC

T4: 2390BC China now up IW. Move settler into position

T5: 2350BC Found Philadelphia (my hometown :D ); Greece now has IW too. Set Philly to Colossus (no need to mess around)

IBT: Washington settler -> settler

T6: 2310BC
IBT: New York worker -> warrior; Boston warrior -> worker

T7: 2270BC

T8: 2230BC Found Atlanta -> worker

T9: 2190BC
IBT: Washington settler -> settler

T10: 2150BC Warrior that is to protect the settler moves and finds a barb warrior standing on the mountain. Leave the settler in Washington for the team to decide (ie, settle towards the barbs or go N of New York.

Looks really good Grahamiam, we have taken a huge leap in comparison with teams at 2150BC. Maybe we should send the Settler to settle the forest east of Washington first and hopefully having dealt with the Barbarian when the next Settler is available.

Before moving north of NY I would like us to have a couple of Warriors to send in advance of any Settlers. There is bound to be Barbs up there.

Wacken is up, Xevious on deck.

EDIT: CoL or Philo next?
