Share your ballot!

I would have nabbed an actual picture back in September, but my camera's broken, and I can't get pics off my phone without a fee :(

If you legitimately vote for Todd Akin, I hope Missouri has ways to shut that down. ;)

How come you people can see your ballot paper all ready?

I ask because in the UK we get sent a voting slip, whcih we then take to the polling booth on voting day where we will be handed the actual ballot paper. Never seen it beforehand.

I bet that's a postal vote.

Lib Dem, Mr Q? Well, that goes to show. (I've not a clue what.)

And ooh look: Brighton and Hove.

What? Brighton? Surely not. I'm guessing your remark isn't directed at me, though.

Brighton's a very trendy, liberal town.

I've never in my live voted in a polling booth. I guess I need to go sometimes to see how that works ;) Postal Votes are just so much easier, just fill out the forms, give your signatures and then you can sleep long on Sunday morning. Why would I get up for that...

Unfortunately, I don't have a election nor a vote coming up. I got one pic from a vote, but that's from 2010. Besides, I don't really want to post that here ;)

Polling booths are a big big let down. Nobody peering over your shoulder. Or anything. I've always felt disappointed at the lack of excitement. So I just go with the postal thing. It's just as likely to be fraudulent though.

Here in Ireland it is an offence to take a picture of your ballot paper - you could use it to sell your vote or you could be made vote under duress.

well, dont know your sleeping habits, but i usually manage to get up before 5pm.

There is no 12 am, as noon is neither before nor after noon. However, around here, people write 12 am for midnight and 12 pm for noon (midday). It goes nicely with a glass of Kool-Aid, which can be purchased for .10 cents (.99 cents if you want a bag of ice, too).

I'm too lazy to find a sample ballot now, but I learned last night that the local US congressional race here is considered the nastiest in the country. I'm so lucky.

My polling place is literally only three or four houses down the road (its a small church of an unknown denomination). My district is relatively boring though; my congressman has never received less than 70% of the vote iirc, and several times has won at 80%.

In 2/3rds of the races an incumbent is running unopposed. It appears that the only qualified write-in candidates are in the presidential race, and Georgia does not even bother counting write-in votes for candidates who have not registered with the secretary of state. There is no way to have a protest vote recorded for those races. That makes them a total sham where the incumbent guaranteed victory and there is really no point in placing them on the ballot at all.

One of the public service commissioner positions would have been an uncontested race were it not for a Libertarian challenging the 18 year incumbent Republican.

Last election cycle I was in one of the most staunchly Democratic districts in the nation (the one what elected Cynthia McKinney and Hank Johnson), but after the last reapportionment my neighborhood was moved to one of the most staunchly Republican districts.

It's not even November 6th!!

You early voters are worse as the people who put up Christmas decorations up on Labor Day!! :p

McCaskill +1 here.

Missouri's Secretary of State website (that's who oversees elections in MO) has a page to look up your voter registration to ensure you're registered. It also shows you your voting location, the number to your local election board, and has a link to the sample ballot I showed in the first post. You'll notice that one specifically says "Bates County" on it and shows the local races for me as well as the federal and state ones. Don't worry, we don't print that out and take it. It's just a sample so we can know exactly what is going to be on the paper ballot when we go to the polling station.

I rather imagine the others who have linked pdf ballots have a similiar webpage courtesy of their state government.

Yes, same here, though I've done it in the past (like when I wrote Mittens in for Prez in 2008 :D .) I'll do it again this year as well, I think. This is one of those laws I feel strongly enough about to be fine breaking and taking the lumps if I get caught. I consider it a free speech issue, I suppose.
