Yeah, there's a guy running for office under the name "Big Daddy". I'm going to make sure the independent runner isn't some tea party/KKK/misc. nut. If he isn't, I'll vote for him just to vote against "Big Daddy". What tripe.

(As you might guess, I live in a black -- read 'Democratic' -- county in a very red state.)

And here are some of the proposed amendments: note that two of them are local issues, but will nonetheless be voted on by ALL Alabamians. Our wretched constitution is stupid this way.

There were exactly three contested races on my ballot - President (Obama will win Illinois), my congressman (John Shimkus, who recently cited the Bible as evidence against climate change, will win), and some local election (meh). My vote was even more worthless than usual!

I bet that's a postal vote.

Lib Dem, Mr Q? Well, that goes to show. (I've not a clue what.)

And ooh look: Brighton and Hove.
Postal votes! Forgot about them!

I've never in my live voted in a polling booth. I guess I need to go sometimes to see how that works ;) Postal Votes are just so much easier, just fill out the forms, give your signatures and then you can sleep long on Sunday morning. Why would I get up for that...

Unfortunately, I don't have a election nor a vote coming up. I got one pic from a vote, but that's from 2010. Besides, I don't really want to post that here ;)
I've only ever voted in a poll booth:crazyeye:

Missouri's Secretary of State website (that's who oversees elections in MO) has a page to look up your voter registration to ensure you're registered. It also shows you your voting location, the number to your local election board, and has a link to the sample ballot I showed in the first post. You'll notice that one specifically says "Bates County" on it and shows the local races for me as well as the federal and state ones. Don't worry, we don't print that out and take it. It's just a sample so we can know exactly what is going to be on the paper ballot when we go to the polling station.

I rather imagine the others who have linked pdf ballots have a similiar webpage courtesy of their state government.
Ah I see! Thanks for the info.

As I'm not sure which precinct is mine in the county, I picked one at random. I abstained from local election issues anyway.

I have to tell you, the box for Second Congressional District made me depressed.

Sweet almighty atheismo American ballots are complicated. Also, why the hell are you electing (presumably chief) coroners and surveyors? Also, governors too? Are your State elections always coincident with the Federal ones?

I might now understand why you think you need these electronic voting machines.

Now this here is a proper ballot; one choice, plain and simple. When we need to elect two things at the same time, they just give us two ballots!

it would be harder to simplify it any further, us britons are stupid and yer average scot is probably too drunk to work out a complex form.

Ours also have like two lines of instructions, which is always reassuring. And our votes go in circles, not squares.

Circles instead of squares? Madness, I tell you! MADNESS!!!

Yeah, American ballots get larded up. The Georgia one only has two proposed constitutional amendments, and they aren't that difficult to understand (although the implications of the charter schools one requires some local knowledge of law proposals to know where the money will be coming from).

Just voted today. As you can probably expect, straight ticket DFL because the GOP candidates annoy me too much and the races are too close to vote 3rd party.
I didn't vote for any of the people on the Soil and Water Conservation Board because I could find out nothing about them. I did vote for all the incumbent judges though. I really dislike the idea of voting for judges, and since I haven't heard of any major issues with them, I decided they should stay.

And I'd vote for CERTAIN atheists
Would that include me?
