I don't understand my math homework at all, so I'll analyze your game instead.

1. e4 e5
2. Nf3 f6

This is a bad move, as shown by some guy named Damiano some number of years ago. Conceptually, it's bad because it blocks your g8 knight and exposes your kingside to attack. Tactically it's bad because it can lead to Nxe5, and if you take back, then 4. Qh5+ Ke7 (...g6 5. Qxe5+ loses the rook) 5. Qxe5+ Ke7 6. Bc4 and black is just kinda being owned.

3. Bc4

Lucky you. Your opponent didn't play Nxe5.

3. ... Nh6

As 2. ...f6 doesn't actually protect the e5 pawn at all, you probably should have played Nc6, d6, or even Qe2 to protect it. Also, developing a knight to the side of the board is usually bad.

4. d4

This threatens your e5 pawn and exchanging on h6. An exchange on h6 would be disastrous for you because after gxh6, an eventual Qh5+ would wreck havoc on your king's position. You should have played 4. ... g6 to avoid the doubled h-pawns, but your position is pretty bad at this point anyway.

4. ... Bb4+

This may appear to develop a bishop with tempo, but he can simply play c3 to attack your bishop, basically meaning that you did not address either of the two threats mentioned in the previous move.

5. c3 a5

Your bishop is worth more than his pawn. Retreat it.

6. cxb4 axb4
7. dxe5 fxe5
8. b3

I'm not sure why he doesn't just play 8. Bxh6 gxh6 9. Nxe5 followed by Qh5 which would certainly lead to a decisive attack.

8. ... c6

At this point you should have worked on your kingside defense, seeing how your f-pawn is missing and you have an undefended e-pawn. Best move probably would have been Qf6.

9. Nxe5 d5
10. Qf3 dxc4
11. Bxh6 gxh6
12. Qf7#

The mate was just the result of your open king. You probably could have prolonged it, but at this point, there was nothing you could do.

Basically, don't move the f-pawn if your opponent plays 1. e5. Not a hard and fast rule, but it's a fairly good one. Also, watch out for enemy threats and don't make hollow checks that have no purpose.

This is the last sentence of my post.

Not really sharing a game, but in a current game against some random person on Chess.com, this position came up (I'm Black).

The two 3x4 boxes that are boxed look eerily similar, don't they? Isn't that cool? And no, that's not the reason why I played Nh5. :p

How did get behind in this one to the PC? (I lost via timeout in blitz (2:10) mode.)

I would have lost this game anyway in another 17 moves. :( Maybe I should have continued the book moves instead of going for the early check?

Isn't anyone going to analyze my game so I can learn where I went wrong?

Save a PGN & post it, then I'll copy & paste to to a text doc which I'd dub as a PGN & then open it to view the moves for easier analysis for you. :)

Some fun blitz games (the 1st I posted also in the vote chess thread :)) :

-----------------------------------

Just played the opening we're playing in the team match in a blitz matchup but with 0-0 instead of cxd4 just to try it out. It worked pretty well for me in the game but I make no allusions that a game where my opponent actually had time to think would turn out to be such a blunderful rout. :D

-----------------------------------

Another wild & wooly game against the same opponent (got off to an opening advantage but after a couple of poor moves he has a forced mate but I thought I might have a forced mate first (I wouldn't have with perfect play but he played far from perfectly). He walked into one but I missed it but I managed to at least corner him & force him to give up his queen, giving me an easy win (not to mention he had 15 seconds left to my 55). The chess.com analysis engine rates me up 22 points here. :D

How could I ever have dissed blitz chess? :D

I pasted your game onto here and will post my comments. (added that link to 1st page of "share your games" by the way)

5. Bb5+
ideally if you're going to play g3 you shouldn't bring you bishop out the other way, it weakens your kingside

8. Nf3
uh-oh, double/discovered attack coming. remember, a move threatening both mate & another piece is even more effective than just threatening two pieces! One should be especially careful in positions with opposing fianchettoed bishops as you can lose both your bishop AND rook if you're not careful (as you discovered)

11. Ng5
Isn't threatening anything really, and you just have to jump back when threatened, of course already it's hard to recommend a move you're position is pretty dismal already

12 ... Qa5
Looks like he wants to prevent your knight from developing naturally on c3, probably he could have done better by developing another piece, his queen was beautifully placed, preventing you from castling.

13. a4
I probably would have castled here, not sure if it's the best move but if you let your king stay trapped in the center you're certainly doomed

14. c3
Maybe trying to cramp in black's bishop but you're cramping yourself also.

17. Bxd5
Losing another piece

20. Qe7
This doesn't really protect the piece as you need your queen to guard the back rank & avoid getting your rook skewered. Looks like the knight is just lost. Nb5 doesn't work do to Qb1+ Qd1 (only move), QxQ and then knight forks winning the rook

This is just my superficial unassisted opinion at nearly three in the morning, I didn't go thru the rest of the game because by this point the game was pretty much decided.

It seems like a total rout but believe it or not, if you stick with the game long enough soon you're being totally crushing the computer at whatever level you just played it on. It's game was far from flawless & it sure took it long enough to win with it's huge material advantage.

Keep up the good work & don't get discouraged. :)
