Hey guys

What do these things actually do? I've never seen them before... are they revealed by necromancy?

Al

They give +1 death combat to all units after you tech necromancy and masonry, how ever to get it you gotta WB it in.

Stone resource? :P

Those have been taken out. Maybe Marble should change as well. It doesn't, does it? Should mean no sheut-stone anymore without WB. :(

OK so is this death combat bonus cumulative (i.e. 3 Sheut Stones = +3 death combat)?

Al

No, it is just a flat +1 death strength

Actually, cows used to turn to shuet stones, as illogical as that sounds. Currently, there is no way to get shuet stones (short of cheating)

If you choose "Fantasy Realm" as your map type in custom games you can get Sheut Stones. There's some other weird behaviour as well though with those maps as you will see toads turn into different animals.

I believe the thing with Toads is that Sheep and Pigs both turn into Toads when they enter Hell, so when they revert they can become either one. I think Cows and Horses both become Nightmares.

Sheut stones act like another metal resource/weapon upgrade, giving all units the promotion.

That's not quite right. A unit can have sheut stones and a regular weapon promotion at the same time (strength 11 champions FTW).
Also, units that don't typically get weapon promos (like adepts) can use sheut stones.

Another meaning it's not a metal upgrade, but acts and is applied in the same way. All units meaning, well, all units. Never did I say that it actually was one. I do see how confusion could arise though.

I'd really like to see these back in the game again (without cheating), by means of hell terrain again. It's a nice battle bonus, especially since hell terrain is generally so lousy for nonInfernal civs.

Hehe check the new patch :)

In 0.32e, marble turns to shuet stone in hell (and presumably shuet stone changes back when the terrain is not hell anymore)

That's great. I remember in the eariler versions, I'd play as a very "evil" civ with the AV religion, and then I'd have to devote 3 or 4 adepts around eliminating hell terrain (since there were no sheut stones, and there were no happiness resources in hell at the time). I'm a powergamer at heart, not a roleplayer ;)

I actually wouldn't mind seeing a few more hell-specific resources which come from some of the health resources. I'd make all the hell-specific resources war-based though.

So how do you pronounce Sheut anyway?

So how do you pronounce Sheut anyway?

I dont know, its an egyptian word. I always pronounced it "soo-it" (where soo is pronounced like the girls name Sue), but I have no idea if that is right or not.

It's a real word? I figured it was something that you made up. Cool.

Edit: From Wikipedia

A person's shadow, Sheut (šwt in Egyptian), was always present. It was believed that a person could not exist without a shadow, nor a shadow without a person, therefore, Egyptians surmised that a shadow contained something of the person it represents. For this reason statues of people and deities were sometimes referred to as their shadows.

The shadow was represented graphically as a small human figure painted completely black as well, as a figure of death, or servant of Anubis.

The mark over the s indicates that the sh is to be pronounced as a normal English sh sound, right?

I always pronounced it like "shoe" + "et." That happens to sound like the French would for "very cool." :D (If I'm wrong about that, blame my sister. I don;t know French...)

Edit: its spelled sheut? Why did I think it was Shuet?
