Hired Goon
I haven't seen this brought up yet. It may have been but I missed it so I am sorry if I am repeating anything.
I have not had a real chance to try this out, but the other night I sent my battleship against some pesky ironclads that were being very gnat-like around my shores.
When it attacked a stack of 3 ironclads, it seemed as if two got off shots before any battle even began. This was a pain for me, and by battleship nearly lost before it took out a single lousy ironclad. As it turned out, it got picked off anyway as it tried to limp back to a city.
Do all but one ship in a stack get in a shot in at an attacking ship all the time? In other words, in a stack of 5 ships do ships 1-4 get a free shot before #5 engages the enemy? Is it only a single shot that's fired beforehand no matter how many ships are there.
It seems to me that this phenomenon is much like a city with artillery or something inside. They get a chance to bombard an attacker before the battle commences.
If this is true, it would be a crime NOT to stack every ship that you can muster.
